no, microsoft knows about the problem, they just have very unclear instructions, i dont think they know how to fix it either. I think im going to get a new computer and just get FSX Gold edition.

I had the same problem today and resolved it without reinstalling. I have just upgraded my PC to 64 bit Win 7 and got the 1722 error when installing FSX. The thing that I think most people are missing here is the need to run the command prompt as an Administrator.

So let's assume you have done all the downloads from Microsoft http://support.microsoft.com/kb/960481 and you run the string from the command prompt and get an error? This is what most people seem to get.

Go to Start/All Programs/Accessories and scroll up to Command Prompt. Don't open it. Right click and you will get a "Run as Administrator" choice. Select this and follow the instructions and you will ultimately get a "Success" result hopefully after following the rest of the MS instructions. You then have to reactivate FSX online or by telephone.

I just got my CD rom working again and was able to install again.
but on the bad news, i still have error 1722, all i need to know how to do now is how to run the command prompt so it will stay open.

Hi kev,

Ok, if your command prompt is closing on its own? and it shouldn't do, there are other ways to do it. follow the guide upto section 9 then do the below:
I have to presume you can use notepad and save files?
copy and paste the lines in between the *****  below into notepad:
*****
cd C:\
pause
cd MicrosoftKB928080.
pause
dir
pause
resetsldl -All
pause
*****

save the file to your desktop or anywhere else you can find it, give it a name such as resetsldl.bat
The .bat part is very important otherwise this cannot work.
once the file is saved, close the notepad and double click on the file you have just saved.
After each line it will stop and wait for you to press a button.
Once it's finished, as long as you have done everything in the guide upto point 9, then this little file will do the rest for you.
Kev: I didn't notice where in the world you are, I'm in the UK and tend to login in most days, I'll keep checking to see what you have done.

regards

Steve

Ps you can type command.com at the start/run 'window'
and
if you get any error, chances are you've not done something in the fix guide.

The other thing Kev,  I believe section 9 (e) in that microsoft guide is wrong and is where you are having trouble.

It gives you:
C:\MicrosoftKB928080\C:\MicrosoftKB928080\resetsldl –All
It should be
C:\MicrosoftKB928080\resetsldl –All

Running Command prompt as Administraor depends on what you are going to do with it, I'm guessing this is going to vary with vista/win7 but in Xp you don't need to be admin.

Hi Kev,

Don't really know but what OS are you using?

If you are using win7/vista then maybe others here using the same may help with the command prompt problem, I use Xp and don't see this problem whether or not I'm logged in as admin.

It maybe a security/permission problem.

Well steve, i recently found another person posting on this problem. he also has the error 1722, we both have windows xp so were pretty much clinging to you for our last hope =)

The only thing stopping me right now is this darn command prompt. If i can get through that, then i can get my flight simulator back. Oh, and about your earlier post, i live in East coast of USA and i will be checking every day... november makes three months ive been fighting this darn 1722 error.

well i will keep looking for awnsers in the meantime, just thought i would give you and update about this other guy also having as much trouble as i am, i feel his pain so im going to help him with whatever you can give me.

thanks alot,
Kev13479

This is most likely a windows installer error and this has been posted as one of your topic replies already(Boikat)..
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928080..
Microsoft has a free phone number for help. If you don't understand the Microsoft fix save yourself some headaches and try phoning the help line.(After 3 months of scratching your head) I've called them several times. They will walk you through it over the phone, I'm sure.
                                   Best of luck... Wink

I doubt very much if its an FSX issue..
