Hi,

I am having a problem with aircraft addons. Everything seems to go ok until I actually choose the plane in FSX. Then, when it shows the 360 view in the preflight menu, only parts of the outside and inside of the aircraft show. Maybe the pilots, some seats, and some other minor parts, but the majority is like, invisible. This is the same in actual flight.

Any ideas as to what could be causing this or how to fix it? Thanks.

Some add-on use BMPs that are 2048X2048, instead of 1024X1024, pixels in size, and your current system/setup can't handle them.

In the FSX.cfg, there is an entry under the [graphics], TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=1024

Change the 1024 to 2048.

Unfortunately, it's not a permanent, since it will revert back to 1024 whenever you change certain setting, like the weather.

The only permanent fix is to either use DXTBmp or Image Tool  (if you have either one of them), and resize the texture files to 1024X1024 (Make back-up copies first), or a graphics hardware upgrade.

Thanks for your help. Would you be willing to elaborate on this, a little?: "The only permanent fix is to either use DXTBmp or Image Tool  (if you have either one of them), and resize the texture files to 1024X1024."

And if I were to get a graphics card upgrade, what exactly would I need to get for these planes to start working if I don't do what you suggested above.

Thanks again.

It actually said 512, not 1024. I'm guessing my graphics card is even more outdated?

I changed it, and the aircraft is still having the problem. Then I went back to see if it reset like you said it may, and it still did say 2048. Could it be a different problem or what?

Thanks.

It has happened with Captain Sim's C-130 and Dino Cattaneo's F-35 Lightning II.

Sorry, those both appear to be payware, so I don't have them and can't look at the texture files.

Ok, thanks for your time, anyway. If I were to change one thing on my computer to improve FSX's performance with an increase of settings, what would be the best? Would a graphics card really help with that?

Tons of help.  And don't scrimp.  There is no such thing as "everkill" when it comes to graphics cards and FSX.

Opinions vary.  The best place to ask is down in the "Hardware" topic.  That's where the most tech savvy readers have the best answers.  I have a NVIDIA GeForce 9400 GT, and it's considered by some to be "Average" to "mediocre". A lot also depends on your computer's CPU and your RAM.
