Now you know why employees of various organisations can be observed wearing Hard Hats....
(They are actually riveted to their heads by their Employers to conform to Health and Safety Regulations).
They are aware of dangerous objects falling from the sky...

Take a tip from them, and always wear a Hard Hat....
..you never know when the next Asteroid will arrive.... Shocked....!
I always don my trusty Crash Helmet when venturing outside... Cool...!
(Its protected me from falling Sea-Gull crap so far).

Paul...ever-gazing skywards... Wink...!

Hagar, if the comment about watching too much Star Trek was directed at me, I was referring to the fact that there is absolutely zero excitement shown by NASA. Here's a video from last year's SpaceUp. Andy Cochrane sums it up nicely. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=69qhKaaSJVI

There was a meteorite that crashed into a home in NJ a few years back, and they interviewed some local residents at the park. The reporter asked one mother what she thought about it and the mother replied with something very similar to "well the government should do something about it. It could have hit my kid or someone else out here." Are you kidding me? Does she want earth to have a gigantic shield that surrounds the entire planet? Is she going to sue (insert your deity's name here)?

Like the Maniac (tongue-in-cheek = resident of Maine) mom who complained that they should reschedual the eclipse of the moon to a more appropriate time of day for her children. I can only surmise, to give some benefit of doubt, that she did not realize that it was a 'live' event.

Cool
