Hi Good People,

I have been hosting Mike Stone's FREE aircraft for some time now via http://www.gjsmith.net/Mike-Stone/index.htm

108 aircraft for FS2004 - totally FREE for download and use by the simming community.  Most of them come with a basic paint kit as well as a livery or two for your flying and repainting pleasure.

Because of the KISS development process used by Mike the aircraft are very economical in their use within the simulator and not only are very good for general aviation but also make excellent AI traffic aircraft.

A small advertising picture which shows some of the 100+ aircraft available - Civil, Military, Fantasy Aircraft from all ages.

...

On this site, that provides Mike's aircraft for download, you will also find that over 30% of those aircraft have FREE repaints available from my site as well - links exist to allow you to have easy access to the additional repaints.

I am pleased to report that download for Mike's aircraft, from this location, is about to exceed 100,000 which is an outstanding number for one developer to achieve.  This does not, of course, reflect the unknown number of these aircraft distributed from other avenues published when Mike was an active developer and releasing aircraft at a prodigious rate.

For those that are familiar with Mike's developments I invite you to revisit the site and gather any that you may have missed, for those who are not familiar with Mike's work visit the site and download and enjoy some of his outstanding work - totally FREE, no obligation, aircraft and liveries for your flying pleasure.

Simply click on this linkhttp://www.gjsmith.net/Mike-Stone/index.htm and enjoy, for FREE,  the creations that Mike developed for our Flight Sim pleasure...........

Happy Simming.

The man was awesome. Shame he's not around anymore (that i know of)

I've had several of his aircraft on my computer at one time yet the only one i seem to remember is his Viper.

Just helped the total.  I used to have a lot of them on my old computer, but lost a lot when I bought a new computer.

Good to hear from some Mike Fans.  Just a short note to advise that the total downloads now exceed 100,000

Happy to see my counter can deal with the extra digit  Grin

Happy simming to all.

You should be able to simply copy the existing texture and use that as your template for repaints.

I'd like to see him get back into it and produce airplanes as payware. From what little I know, he quit because people complained about this or that-- even though the model was FREE. You just can't please some people, you know? Seems the beef was over VCs. From what I understand, modeling a VC is a gargantuan task. Mike was making airplanes on his own time, for zilcho return.  We should have been happy to just get what we got. But some people's kids...

if some people are going to gripe and complain when they get something for free, they have nothing better to do with their time.  If they honestly dont / didnt like the work that was performed, then they need to STFU and go PAY for it.  ...... ITS FREE!!! Like you said, you get what you pay for... and most of it was EXCELLENT work.  6 years ago, when some of the stuff he made came out, it was better than payware. Compared to today's standards, Mike's are of a lesser quality "visually" but the dynamics are 99% realistic. The only thing that would make them 100%, is if you had a 'motion pit'.

I for one like most of his work, although 1 or 2 craft did not have a design that I liked, or were too Jaggie for my computer (.... probably more of my computer was crap and not the plane).

I never got the chance to talk to Mike in person as I did with the late Mr. Steve Hinson. But in my mind's eye, both are excellent people and a God send to the Flight Sim Community.  Thank you Both for the work that you have done, that has set the standard for everyone else to work from.   It is because of designers such as these, that the rest of the developing community had to step up their work to the levels they are at now.

Thank you Mike (and Steve - RIP)

Thanks for all of the kind words for Mike's gifts to the simming community.

Part of the reason he left the simming arena was the "complainers" but also health reasons which were not being helped by the harassment of the rivet counters.

He now builds wooden historical models as a hobby and enjoys that greatly and has only one critic of his work - himself  Grin

Again - thanks for your good words and hopefully his models will be enjoyed for years to come - don't forget because of the KISS method of development they make pretty good AI aircraft as well.

Regards to all

Can you ask Mike for us if he'd put up some pictures of his models? And leave no avenue for comment, please. I'm sure, even if they are fabulous models, someone will have something negative to say about a labor of love. Some people are just like that...

If ever there is a Simviation "Hall of Fame" I think Mike Stone should be included.  I also enjoy flying his excellent aircraft.   Smiley
