I went outside, in the dark, a little while ago, bent my head upwards at a crazy angle to look at the sky...

...and fell backwards, flat on my back and bumped my head on the ground...

So that was the end of that futile exercise!.... Cry...!

The Perseid Meteor Shower has got a lot to answer for... Angry...!

I'll wait for some Photos/videos tomorrow instead....

...if my headache is better... Roll Eyes...!

Paul....tell me about it tomorrow....ZZZZzzzzz........

I got to see a few of the brighter ones, the nearby city lights really made it hard to see in my area.   Cry

Makes me long for my childhood days on the farm, gazing up at big star filled skies.

Whatever part of the World we are located in, it would be very nice to be told which direction to look in....

...someone telling me to look in the direction of the Constellation of Zorg, doesn't help me a lot!... Sad...!

North, South, East, or West would be a much bigger help!

Paul....Compass in hand... Wink... Wink...!

Where is the Constipation Constellation of Zorg, anyway?... Roll Eyes... Wink... Grin...!

From the horse's mouth. (Jodrell Bank Centre for Astrophysics)

If it is clear on the 11th to 14th of August, one will have a chance of seeing the meteors in the Perseid Meteor Shower - the year's most dependable meteor shower.  It is a great year to observe the Perseids as the thin crescent Moon will have set early in the evening so its glare will not hinder our view.   Look up towards the North-East from 11 pm onwards on the nights of August 11th, 12th and 13th and 14th.  The peak of activity - when you might expect to see 20-30 meteors an hour is predicted to be between 00:30 and 03:00 BST on the morning of the 13th.   This is the best time to observe on the other nights too as Perseus is rising in the sky and the Earth is facing the meteor stream.  Most meteors are seen when looking about 50 degrees away from the "radiant" (the point from which the meteors appear to radiate from) which lies between Perseus and Cassiopea. (See the star chart below) The Perseid meteors are particles, usually smaller than a grain of sand, released as the comet Swift-Tuttle passes the Sun. The shower is quite long lived, so it is worth looking out any night from the 10th to the 15th of August.  Good hunting!

Not much point in me looking. We've had thick cloud cover every night since it was announced. Can't even see the Moon. Sad

Good morning all... Smiley

Well we had the telescope ready and several pair of binoculars at hand.

The sky was clear, lots of stars, no problem with lighting and we know several neighbours and family members were also scanning the sky.

The old girl went to bed about 01:45 disappointed she saw nothing and I turned in about 02:30 disappointed I saw nothing.

Have not heard of anyone seeing anything around here and there was nothing in the newspapers.  Have not talked to family members yet so not sure if any of them had better luck than us.

What got us interested was they talked about this all day on the Weather Network and one of the local radio stations.

I am not sure but perhaps we turned in too early, maybe we should have waited until 04:00.

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

I was going to say that I didn't even realize it was dirty  -- but this explains why; Theis kept it clean.
