Hello Chums...

I notice that many/most/all the latest Motherboards no longer seem to support Serial, and Parallel (Printer) Ports (Sockets) at the rear.

Is there no longer a demand for them?

My Hewlett-Packard, ink jet Printer still uses the Parallel/Printer Port on my Gigabyte GA-7N400SL Motherboard.

Paul.... Wink...!

Not really. I'm pretty sure everything is USB now. You MIGHT be able to get adapters but I haven't checked.

What are you going to do when your hardware finally stops working?  Huh

My wife's CRT monitor quit working a week ago,
and she almost had a conniption fit when she discovered that she couldn't get another one!
She hated the fact that she had to get a flat screen monitor.  Roll Eyes
(women are funny like that)

Your hardware is obsolete as soon as you walk out of the store with it!  Embarrassed   Wink

As I mentioned on another thread, Computer Hardware is one of the  least interest in my life, so I have no need to spend/waste large amounts of money on it.
If it does the day-today job of which I ask of it, I am more than satisfied.
"Flight Simulation" is but a small part of its general use, and to that end it performs admirably!
If, on very rare occasions, something fails, I just replace it with something affordable.

I must admit, at this point, that Aeroplanes, Flight Simulation, and Computer Hardware/Software tinkering, do not take over my life....fortunately....

..they are merely another "entertainment" when there is nothing else to do....a bit like watching Television...or mowing the Lawn...Wink...!

My Motorbikes, Musical Instruments...... and Trusty Gas Cooker, take pride of place over my Computer and its Software!

Paul..Time for a Bike ride to Sainsbury's supermarket, a tinkle on the Ivories, and cooking Dinner!... Cool...!

...... 26 years of retirement has given me the opportunity to pursue all sorts of other interests... Wink...!

I remember a Sim V Forum discussion, some time ago, about the visual and technical benefits of CRT Monitors over Flat Screen Monitors.... Smiley...!

By flat screen I presume you mean LCD panel because there is such a thing as a flat screen CRT monitor.

LCD screens kill CRT screens therefore I have no idea why one would ever want to procure a CRT screen in this day and age. Maybe 5 years ago, but not now, it's 2010 for crying out loud. The advantages of LCD are better than ever, and the disadvantages are mitigated. And it's not like you're going to fit a 22 inch + CRT on your desk. Honestly I'm quiet honestly surprised they're not banned for sale given how power inefficient they are.

That's why we now have USB 2.0.  Roll Eyes

The hardware you buy today, is obsolete the moment you walk out of the store with it, because it's replacement is on the way in the back door of the store.  Wink

Agreed with most of what you said but my point is that the USB interface, the plug itself, is not in any way new. It's not as if we were suddenly forced on USB as soon as Parallel ports came out.

Also if you know when to buy sometimes you can have a PC that is not obsolete in any way for a good two years. For example, Core i7 920.
