Finally!!
After a month of suffering with the onboard graphics chip,
my new graphics card is on the way.
I blew up my Ati 1650 512mb from 2 years of ignorance and abuse.
Now I've got a Radeon HD 5450 1Gb DDR3 on the way, and you had better believe I'm going to baby that thing.
Now, if I could just get that 2.8ghz dual core AMD upgraded just a tad.....

Well, with my last one, I made sure that every slider was set as high as it would go,
and left it that way while finding EVERY graphically demanding game and application I could to run it over with.
This time around, I plan on keeping things at the mid point and not pushing it.
I managed to get 2 years of faithful service out of the last card
until it gave up and shot it's cooling fan off inside the case,
so this one should hopefully last much longer than that 2 years,
while still giving me at least the same performance.
I hope....

Graphics cards are designed to be used and abused. You're fine. Your old card probably had a defect or was poorly designed.

I wish all things made with defects or poor design ran like that one did.
If they did, I'd still have a few cars I really liked.

Veering off thread slightly, I took Mictheslik's advice and looked at Jesus Altuve's FSX.cfg tweaks (on another site). There's a list for high-end machines and another for those like ours - mid level. After changing the .cfg, I ran FSX at a solid 30FPS locked so, just for laughs, checked unlimited - 60-65FPS. Wow, I thought, how smooth and imagine my surprise when I looked at settings - some much lower than I'd ever heard, yet it looks and runs so good

That's the one. However he does go contrary to 'Nick N' on a few items so, if you've been a member of that congregation, prepare to grit your teeth

His tweaks for XP did my system wonders....
His tweaks for FSX didn't do squat for me, but I'm guessing that is because I didn't own or use the same hardware/software he mentions or recommends.
I had already made my bed and had laid in it for sometime before I ran across his posts.
And as long as this works, then hey, I'm not one to be biased in this area.

HOLY JESUS!!!
(Hey-zeus)
I'm sold!
When I first loaded up FSX, after copying his 'Low End' FSX.cfg, I had a relatively solid 50fps!
Granted, that was with very low autogen, but still, I've never seen it run that smooth.
After a bit of tweaking with the settings, I found a spot that I was VERY happy with. Plenty of Autogen, and a rock solid 20fps.
The ONLY downside...... It's low & slow ONLY for me and there is absolutely NO AI anywhere to be found,
which isn't really too bad.
I've still got FS9 if I want to fly my heavies, see AI, and do Multiplayer.
Bear in mind, these results are from an old, cluttered install of FSX, running on a 2.8ghz dual core, and using the motherboards graphic chip!
Even when I had a graphics card running, I couldn't see this kind of performance.
Now I REALLY can't wait for that new graphics card to arrive.
Thank you so much fellas,
for showing me the light of Jesus!
