I use VOZ 1.8 (specifically the North textures) for my tropical flights.

Works a treat for me....Colours:

"North" Textures for Northern California, Oregon, Washington, and above (Green and lush).

"South East" Textures for Southern California/Nevada. (Dry and dusty in the Summer).

VOZ 1.8 is well worth installing!

Paul...G-BPLF...FS 2004...FS Nav...and a bit of Australia... Grin...!

one major .cfg tweak is:

[TERRAIN]
TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL=21

This will cause Mountains to have better peaks, and rivers to become more defined.

I use several others that dont do so much as far as scenery, but visual Information (AI, and the SHIFT+Z+Z+Z)

[AContain]
ShowLabels=1
ShowUserLabel=0
ShowLabelManufacturer=1
ShowLabelModel=1
ShowLabelTailNumber=1
ShowLabelDistance=1
ShowLabelAltitude=1
ShowLabelAirline=1
ShowLabelAirlineAndFlightNumber=1
ShowLabelFlightPlan=1
ShowLabelContainerId=0
ShowLabelAirspeed=1
ShowLabelHeading=1
LabelDelay=1000
LabelColor=FFFF0000

Leave the 2 bolded ones at ZERO (turned off), but turn on all the others "=1" so that you can see what airline, Flight number, Altitude, Heading, Flight plan your AI planes are flying so that if you want to try the same path, then you can either follow them to their destination, or you can go to their starting point and fly the same plan.

[MAIN]
Location=0,0,1024,768
Ave_Frame_Rate_Display=1

Add this to your [MAIN] section to see extra information about your Framerates, such as Lowest Frame Rate, Average, and Highest.  It will also give you Latency informantion while in Single player, or Multiplayer such as your connection to the server that you are connected to.

you can also try as far as scenery goes... is "Howards Mix: The FSX Experience Revised"  http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/perlfect/search/search.pl?p=1&lang=en&include=...   --- hope you have a decent rig, as this cause a huge Frame Hit on my Laptop, but then again my system is CRAP!

I also have Ultimate Night Environment, Ultimate Terrain USA (which i am about to go look to UT Europe), Real Environment Pro --> Real Environment Extreme 2004,
replacement tree textures, Nicks Massive Crash.  - Most of these are Payware, except the tree textures, Massive Crash, and Ultimate Night Environment

Hope these will at least get you started.d

I just installed ULTIMATE TERRAIN (looks pretty good on my laptop, no frame rate hits at all); I also have Real Environment Extreme 2004 [REX2004] - again, little to no frame rate hit and it changes not only weather, runway/taxiway textures, but aircraft and airport lights; Nicks Massive Crash Final - http://www.surclaro.com/download.php?query=Nicks+Massive+Crash+Final&op=search ;

What exactly is it that you want out of your Simulator? To function the best that it can, or ... to look the best that it can?    Just an opinion, I would strive for the latter but dial it back just a hair for functionality.   Get the best planes/helos [captain sim, alphasim, POSKY] ..... scenery: http://walhalla.mine.nu/fs2004.php - take your pick..  (but add in a few Paywares like ULTIMATE TERRAIN or HOWARDS MIX for free, and you will start to see your sim come to life.)

I have just recently started getting my FS2004 to look and behave WAY better than I could ever get FSX to even RUN!   my fsx will only run at 2-4 FPS!!!  2004 runs at 17-20, and that is with REX, Ultimate Terrain, Alphasim Blackhawk flying over New York, NY!!!

I want the best. No matter what i do to fs2004 i've always had like 60fps so i limit it to 24fps so im not worried at all about performance  Wink

My suggestions:

  • REX2004 - payware
  • ULTIMATE TERRAIN - payware
  • HOWARDS MIX - freeware
  • Abacus EZ-VFR - payware -- up to you though as it will blanket your nice scenery with red letters telling you what airports are where below you.
  • any specific scenery from: http://walhalla.mine.nu/fs2004.php
  • airplanes.. the sky is the limit (pun intended) Smiley Whatever you want to install is up to you.  I recently got Alphasim's Blackhawk, and while it is a bit hard to land or to stop after going 150 KIAS it is a blast to fly
