I have the Dodosim Bell 206. While it is an EXCELLENT craft, I hate to say it but I can never get the thing airborn without the sucker turning into a Mini-tornado.   Can I swap out the .AIR files or some other file with another Helo and make it act the way that "I" want it to??

thanks

yes you can, as long as you keep the name of the .AIR file the same. But that is not garuanteed that your heli will behave as you want now. the characteristics are a mix between the .AIR and the Aircraft CFG. For example, your Mach envelope is controlled by the .air file, while I have to adjust the engine thrust in the cfg. otherwise the aircraft wil "run away" as the JBizz does, if you remember that tests?

The point is, you can change it, and you will see a change n handling, though not necessarily what you want. you can also use AIrEd to alter the .AIR file.

here is what I want to do.   Keep the DODOSIM Bell 206 frame, texture, everything.... but make it handle like the Default 206, by replaceing the Dodosim_206.air with the Default_206.air   .... YEAH I know that the Default 206 is TOTAL CRAP, but this is what I am working with right now.  Besides, I like the overall look of the Dodosim.

as you point out.... pull up the .cfg's side by side and compare the 2 and make the dodosim 206 behave exactly like the default.

Then again, I might be able to take the textures from Dodosim and just add them to the default and add the correct [fltsim.XX] entries to the .cfg

Not likely.  As I understand it, textures are keyed to the specific aircraft model they were "painted" for and seldom (if ever) will display properly on a different model.

At least that has been my experience.

EDIT added:

If you have not already done so, you really should check out HoverControl.com

That site is dedicated to all things Chopper related and they have a fine collection of Tutorials as well as aircraft, forums and training assistance.  If they don't have it, you probably don't need it (as the old saying goes).

sHovercontrol is the ONLY place i will go to for my helo's.  But someone gave me a DODOSIM 206 being that it is susposed to be "REAL START".  every time you try to get in the helo, you have to go through start up procedures or you can NOT fly it at all.

well, the outside and sounds are AMAZING, but I "HATE" the real start part of it, and honestly, if I have to start the darn thing EVERY time that I want to fly it... no thanks... deletion bin it goes.

Im more of a "CTRL+E and get out of here" kind of person.   im not into taking 15 min to get the APU started, and another 10 setting fuel pumps/checking gauges 10 times just to be able to hit the START! switch.

For everything off shore/on the water.... that would be http://www.fs-shipyards.com/

Well, you could copy all the data from the default CFG to your model, except for the first part as well as the contact points?

My understanding is that the payware Dodosim model is the same as the freeware Owen Hewitt B206, except for the  systems realism!
SO for a start, search on Owen Hewitt  and download the freeware model and any of the dozens of mods that have been made for it.
I fly it, and so can you...

Also, If you don't like the fussy start procedure on a rotorwing, slew up a foot or so, and then release it.
It will be running when it hits the ground.
It's not guaranteed perfect for all models, but at the very least you'll be able to fly until the battery conks out...

Capt.Propwash, I wouldn't try swapping the air file! The dodo uses some crazy technology, and the air file for it, I'm sure, has some very important settings that other air files don't have. It's kind of hard to explain.

Also, set the difficulty level to "1" and in the VC where there is the group of buttons on the left of the main panel, there is one icon that has a "T" on it. This is training mode. It goes through the startup for you. Very quick. And starting it yourself doesn't take that long if you have difficulty on 1. I start it by hand all the time, and have no problem.  Wink

Cool

wingz and Hughes, I'll take a look into both of your suggestions.  I like the look and sounds of the helo, just I HATE the way it flies.   Start up is not really my biggest concern, its the "tornado" that it wants to do on lift off.   Yes I know that I have to play with the AXIS Assignments to get it to try to fly the way it was meant to, but I should not HAVE to change anything just to fly it.   The designers on this, in my eye, botched this craft to hades and back - every other designer that makes helos can get them to fly correctly in the way that FS is programmed to work, but yet these guys i guess couldn't get the coding right.

In defence of the Dodosim model (which I do not own):
I'm not sure how you came to have this expensive and complex model, it's not meant for the casual simmer at all.
For mass consumption, Owen Hewitt made the freeware B206.

I'm told the Dodosim is the closest you'll get to a helicopter simulator, on MS Flight Simulator.
