Lucky! Grin Once I tried getting over to see our local medical helicopters, but their excuse was "Since 9/11, we don't let people come back here." Or something like that.  Angry Anyway, our medical helicopters are a Bell 222 and an EC-135 operated my Mercy Air. In fact, just saw our 135 on the news today. They airlifted a little boy to the hospital who had been "accidentally" shot right above one of his eyes with an arrow by his twin brother.  Shocked

Cool

...one of my "ex's" did a one hour trial flight in a R22 helicopter last Monday at our local airfield, (EGBS Shobdon), as a 60th. birthday present from her Husband and our Children....
She loved it to bits....(the usual wide smile, from ear to ear!)...but I was amazed at the cost!.... Shocked....!

£250 + VAT for a one hour trial/lesson in a little R22 bubble!.... Shocked... Shocked... Shocked...!

Prices:  http://www.tigerhelicopters.co.uk/prices.htm

The equivalent one hour trial flight in a beautiful Cessna 150/152 is a mere £100 in total, at the adjacent airfield!

I don't think they realised just how expensive it is to get involved in Helicopter flights!

...and Helicopters are dangerous things, anyway!... Wink...!

http://www.tigerhelicopters.co.uk/

Still it was a gorgeous sunny, windless day and I enjoyed watching the activity!

Paul...give me a baby Cessna any day*!... Wink... Grin... Grin...!

* like Red Bull...it gives you "wings"!.... Smiley...!

What a line of BS.  We all know how top secret the equipment on a med helo is.  Sorry, just venting.  Ever since 9/11, aviation has become this locked down paranoid thing.  Its no wonder the number of pilots in our country is plummeting, anyone interested in aviation is just chased away.

We/I have similar problems at my local Airfield, but the access restrictions are due to our long-suffering; "Health and Safety Regulations", and "Insurance Liabilities"......

Lines of metal barriers prevent visitors from going anywhere near Aircraft, anywhere on/in the Airfield and Hangars for fear of injuries; Prop strikes, wing head banging, tripping over, slipping, walking into, etc...etc... Cry...!

It is impossible to get anywhere near Aircraft, etc, for examination or photographic purposes.

The whole "Airfield enjoyable experience" has now been lost forever!

We have the feeling that we have been; "Banished"!

I can remember a time, when it was enjoyable...long ago... Roll Eyes...!

Paul.

Politicians, Lawyers, Double-Glazing Salespeople, and Health and Safety and European Regulations are now the bane of our lives, over here!... Angry...!

Its the same on this side of the pond too.  Except here its all about national security, because lord knows how much damage a Piper Cub or some crazy Brit in a Cessna 150 could do.   Wink

Paul.... Grin.... Grin.... Grin....!

Arnie's (Ah'll be Back) restrictions on me, now means I have to approach San Francisco International in my '150 by creeping in under their Radar!
