My new system:

i7 920 @ 4.01GHz (Stable OC)
6GB DDR3 @ 1528MHz
5870 1GB @ Stock

I installed FSX Deluxe edition using the guide, obviously being a new build all my drivers are up to date. So I fired up FSX, maxed everything out and I got crappy performance (10-20FPS). I then turned off all traffic and got similar results.

What is up with this? This system should murder FSX but it's not.

Did you tweak it ? No tweaks, no go.
Also, the fact that it's a new build does not guarantee the drivers are up to date.
Same goes for Windows and the various libraries, like DirectX9 updates, .NET updates, etc...

Finally, turning everything to max will mean:
- water at "2x Max", which is not a good choice because the impact on the frames is big and the improvements over "2x High" are small.
- ground texture at 7cm, which is stupid because there are no textures like that. (FSX contains 1M per pixel textures, excepted for roads)
- cloud drawing distance to maximum, with default clouds, which will just kill any graphic card and CPU
- mesh to 1m, while most of the meshes available are equal or superior to 10 meters.
- maximum default AI traffic which is both ugly and heavy on the FPS
- maximum vehicules on ground, water and airports, which quite a waste of CPU power
- ground scenery shadows, which are both ugly and heavy on the frames
- default bloom which is heavy on the frames (excepted in DX10 mode...)
- what else...

I thought most tweaks were useless post-SP2? And yes, I am using the most update-to-date drivers because I personally looked for them yesterday when I installed Windows.

The only thing I have installed right now is REX 2.0 because every time I start tweaking FSX it totally destabilizes it.

Read the tweak topics very carefully.
Also, give absolute priority to the tweaks by Jesus Altuve.
Finally, configure your in-game settings wisely.

Good info.....I had some settings turned to "useless"apparently GrinThanks for the heads up Smiley

"Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth and danced the skies on laughter silvered wings. Sunward I've climbed and joined the tumbling mirth of sun split clouds.....and done a hundred things you have never dreamed of.....wheeled and soared and swung high in the sunlit silence. Hovering there, I've chased the shouting wind along and flung my eager craft through footless halls of air.

Up, up the long, delerious, burning blue I've topped the wind swept heights with easy grace where never Lark, nor even Eagle flew. While with silent lifting of mind I've trod the high untrespassed sanctity of space, put out my hand and touched the face of god"
