I'm trying to land an A-380 but I'm having trouble getting all the wheels to touch down. The plane just floats right over the runway. What's the best way to deal with this or what are the common causes for this to happen?

Have you tried practising, and perfecting, the same routine with the Cessna 172 Trainer, first?

-too much airspeed

-incorrect flaps setting

-flaring at the wrong moment

I can land every other aircraft with no problem. The only ones I have trouble with is the 747 and A-380. I can even land my AN-225 with no problem. I think I need more practice with the 747 as the flight dynamics were always challenging for me when it comes to approach and landing. Speed has been my main issue because to me the 747 seems less forgiving than other aircraft when it comes to stall speed.

@Fozzer: I did the training with the Cessna and have no problems landing with it but I did not train with it having a 747 in mind. I will revisit the Cessna 172 Trainer to see if it would make a difference.

@ShaneG: Thanks for the info. Would the amount of fuel in the tank have something to do with it too? I was wondering if the added weight would be a factor because I did a semi short hop from Brooklyn to Muncie Indiana.

Yes, and no.

Fuel weight will always be a factor in landing, but it is corrected for in your approach speed, and also proper fuel load before ever leaving the ground.

It does you no good to have fuel for a 2000nm trip, if you're only going 200nm.  Wink

I'm not as versed as most here on the finer details of landing the heavies, but I do know my advice is the most important, and basic for them.

I find that each and every Aircraft has different flying characteristics, and close scrutiny of the Aircraft Owners Manual, together with many hours of practice, generally pays off in perfecting the safe operation of the aircraft.

Practice, practice, practice... Wink...!

That's assuming the flight dynamics are accurate which is by no means certain. Undecided

I'm more at home in a vintage light aircraft & have no knowledge of the A380, or indeed which one Mistro has, so it's difficult to give advice. Most jet airliners are equipped with devices like spoilers & air brakes to assist with landing. You won't find these on the Cessna 172. Tongue

My old airline captain buddy once told me that, all numbers being good, once you've established a touch down attitude you need a little forward push before the mains hit - must work  Smiley.

I got her on the ground. At first I saved the flight on final approach when I was close to the runway. Today instead of trying to force a futile situation, I pulled up and circled back out about 10 miles and gave myself more time and space to get it right. It was definitely my airspeed and angle of attack (I was trying to force it down to the runway as I was too high). My nose was pointed too low to flare up in a good enough time on my first approaches. I was able to get the angle and speed right and glided to the runway.  Cool

Well I'll be blowed!

I've always thought that "Surclaro" was one of those long-established, trusted sites, like Simviation, Flightsim, Avsim, WS Pilots, etc?.... Shocked...!

I recall trusting the site from day one!

You never know!

Maybe the Site owners are not fully aware of what gets uploaded?

Paul.

Holy Crap! I didn't know. At least you know where I got it from and did not intend to get pirated aircraft or make links to such files. I'm innocent I tell ya!  Shocked Huh Undecided  Lips Sealed

No worries mate, some of us have been through this at one time or another.  Wink

I've modified all the links so that they don't lead directly to the plane anymore.

Just to confirm, that A380 is a modified Wilco A380.

I downloaded the one from Surclaro and compared it to the Wilco that I have, and the texture files & names are identical.

That's good that you circled out instead of forcing it down.
Question: Were you watching the approach lights while making your decent?

http://www.navfltsm.addr.com/gs.htm
http://www.caa.co.uk/docs/33/CAP637.PDF (Chapter 1, page 5).

By doing so you can quarantee yourself a great landing. I've gotten back into the pilot's seat of the Posky 747SP and fly long distance trips. The last few touchdowns have been sweet, especially the one in Seoul, South Korea. Smooth, baby, smooth Cool

Keep practicing!
