I recently read a thread about FSWC and how awesome it is.I can't get it to do squat.Does it rely on default textures?
The water changes for a split second after I go back to FSX and then immediatly reverts to the way it looked before.Anybody have a similiar problem? Thanks Smiley
Btw, I'm using Explore Environment if that makes a difference

"Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth and danced the skies on laughter silvered wings. Sunward I've climbed and joined the tumbling mirth of sun split clouds.....and done a hundred things you have never dreamed of.....wheeled and soared and swung high in the sunlit silence. Hovering there, I've chased the shouting wind along and flung my eager craft through footless halls of air.

Up, up the long, delerious, burning blue I've topped the wind swept heights with easy grace where never Lark, nor even Eagle flew. While with silent lifting of mind I've trod the high untrespassed sanctity of space, put out my hand and touched the face of god"

Keep in mind, FSWC doesn't change your textures, but it changes the shaders the sim uses to make reflections on those textures (the ones for water anyway). Make sure you've set the FSWC options up correctly. You should have done that when you first installed it, but click the "More" button to double check. The help file mentions that there are a few bugs with the "clean install/ Service Pack 1" options, so if that's what you have, that might be the problem. I think I also read that you need to be running your sim's water settings at 2x low at least, but I could be wrong about that.

This is what I do.
First, make sure you sim isn't running. (I know, I know)
Then start FSWC, and move all the sliders to one direction. (your choice which way.) Click "apply", it'll say "settings have been applied". Click ok and "x" out of the program. THEN, it'll tell you "Changes have been made, yadda, yadda" (that's the technical term btw  Wink ), and you'll have three choices, Save, Save As, or continue. It's up to you, but I would pick the Save As option to make a new profile (call it test or some such thing), as the save option will change the FSX default profile in the FSWC program (cause that's usually the one that opens by default), and continue won't save anything at all. (Your settings will still have been made in the sim though.)

Now start your sim and find some water. Take a screenie if you can for later comparison, or at the very least, make a good mental note of how the water looks.

Shut your sim down, and start FSWC again, but this time choose the profile you made earlier (or if you used the continue option without saving anything, that's ok too), move the sliders all the way in the other direction, and click apply, close the program, and save or continue.

Start your sim again, and have another look around. You should now be able to have an idea (albeit a rough idea) of what the software does. Wink

I hope this'll help you, but there isn't much I can do if not, cause I'm still learning about it myself.

I tried to log on to the FSWC site just now, and sadly, I get the message that their bandwidth limit has been exceeded.
(FSWC is getting quite popular!)

I never went thru all that.

When you are on the set-up screen, from the icon that should've been set to your desktop, there's a small screen on the left that quite accurately depicts what your water FX will look like.  Tinker with the slders to see what they do then set what you think you like.

Then click on "save settings" and name it.  Run a sim starting off somewhere like Seattle or Vancouver just between day and dusk on a summer date.  That gave me a very good idea of what land reflection(s) looked like and sunlight reflection also.

I had to go back just once after that and do some slight tweakage, resaved under the same name, and haven't touched it since.

And I'm pretty much a noobimus maximus as far as this sorta thing goes, but FSWC is very easy to set up and use.
