The Silent Generation are people born before 1946.
The Baby Boomers are people born between 1946 and 1959.
Generation X are people born between 1960 and 1989.
Generation Y are people born between 1990 and now.
Why do we call the last one generation Y?
I did not know, but a cartoonist explains it eloquently below...Learned something new today
The secret to happiness is a good sense of humor and a bad memory.
"I have a place where dreams are born, And time is never planned. It’s not on any chart, You must find it with your heart."
Albert Einstein - "Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe."
Martin Luther King Jr. - “Nothing in the world is more dangerous than a sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity.”
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe - “There is nothing worse than aggressive stupidity.”
Mark Twain - “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.”

Hehe.
Seriously though, they only call it Generation Y because they were too lazy to come up with something more original than "Hey, what comes after X?" I say we should be called the iGeneration.

When I see one of those types walking around with their jeans halfway down, I always feel the urge to sneek up on them from behind and pull it down. My nextdoor kid of 15 years old never leaves the house without showing his bright yellow or green underwear to the rest of the street. I call him Gaylord...

To think, my dad thought hip huggers were to low back in the 70's. Although he didn't seem to mind mini skirts....

I'm sure some of you have seen this already but,"no pun intended"I thought this would fit here nicely.

"Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth and danced the skies on laughter silvered wings. Sunward I've climbed and joined the tumbling mirth of sun split clouds.....and done a hundred things you have never dreamed of.....wheeled and soared and swung high in the sunlit silence. Hovering there, I've chased the shouting wind along and flung my eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up, up the long, delerious, burning blue I've topped the wind swept heights with easy grace where never Lark, nor even Eagle flew. While with silent lifting of mind I've trod the high untrespassed sanctity of space, put out my hand and touched the face of god"

LMAO, I usually laugh out loud when I see those people. I've noticed that some of them wear really loose pants and have them sagging and some wear really tight pants and still have them sagging. The tight pants ones are the ones that make me really laugh. The others just look like they lost their belt.

They're still at it. I've even recently seen the full-on, belt tightened just under the buttocks thing... fortunately, that style is accompanied by boxers pulled way up. Stupid, yes, but not as mortifying as the alternative... the "male posterior decolletage", as I call it.
It reminds me of an old Cosby monologue about the "tough kids" in the neighborhood he grew up in:
"You know- hats on sideways, pants on backwards... just rebelling against everything..."

This "fashion" is still popular around here. I have to wonder if they realise how stupid they look.
I prefer the latest female fashion popular with young ladies. Wearing tight leggings under tiny shorts or mini-skirts. In the summer they do away with the leggings.
I would take a photo for you but I'm likely to be arrested.

Sometimes I seriously think this generation should be called the "WTF Generation". At times even they are hard pressed to figure out what's going on....

Yeah I know what you mean, they Bring back the Pants sag from Gen X period, that we in that time frame had enough since to say "This is gay and stupid, time to grow up" but yet 10yrs latter after I graduated HS, here are these stupid kids sagging there pants, when they don't even realize it is a prison thing. If you sagged it, it meant you were gay and took it up the butt in prison. And the other prison reference was that when you went there, they took every thing from you because you were worthless, and would not even get a belt to hold up your pants.

Hagar's statement is what I run across up at campus around here all the time.
"Colombia"-brand jackets, skirts, leggings/tights, and fuzzy boots. It can be hot and humid out, but the style remains.
There's an unofficial game up here that simply involves counting how many you see before you reach class.
Also, for any of the folks "across the pond" that may be visiting the US in the future:
What you see at....Walmart, K-mart, or any fast food place is not representative of the average US citizen.
Unfortunately, it may actually be an accurate assessment in the very near future.
Sean.....wanting to move to pretty much anywhere in Europe......where the people are skinnier, nicer, and where common sense is actually common.

Not to sure about that. Plenty of fat people here (looks in mirror), the amount of nice people is getting less every day and common sense... Let's not go there.
