I don't know a whole lot about laptops but.....

I think 8 gigabytes of RAM is overkill, 4 gigabytes might save you some money without any drop in performance. Wink

(Unless the programs you're running specifically need 8 gig?)

You could get something faster but for 1/4th the price if you bought a desktop computer. Also make sure to look at laptops by other companies because apparently there are cheaper ones that have similar specs to the ones you posted.

I agree.
Other places will have specs that will be the same, maybe lower for a lot less.
Personally though, if you want, you can custom build yours.
I always recommend custom builds.
You get exactly what you want, to do what you want, for less.
Plus what I like about custom building is the fact you know what you can upgrade to from the start,
I.E if you buy a pre built, sometimes you do not know what motherboard they use, so you have to research it, then sometimes that motherboard only works with "their" parts.

But custom building has a downside too...
No customer support.
(By that I mean if a part breaks, you have to worry about getting an RMA, or if your having problems with the computer you have to learn how to fix it)

But just remember, the price tag you pay for prebuilts is higher because of the support and labor required to build it for you.

Just listen, my friend just got this PC for FREE because his broke under warranty.  This is not even a medium end, it's on the ULTRA-HIGH END!!  It runs FSX right out of the box at 50fps with very high settings.  I would die for one of these.  ASUS notebooks are virtually the same as Alienware, excpet they come with goodies and are half the price.  If you are in the market for it, you have to have the one I suggested.  Don't knock the i5, it's badass.  8 gigs of RAM will not make much of a difference than even 4.  I really suggest you save the $400 (I don't know the price, your link is broken.  The kind of notebooks you're looking for run about $1300 at BestBuy.).

Edited:
Any res higher than 1500 by 900 will destroy framerates.  The one I suggested has some odd 1300 by 800 (?) res, and it will run much better, even with an i5.  Unless you have experience that proves you need something better, this is the way to go.

Higher resolutions decrease framerates because the computer has to draw more. Personally I think anything under 1920*1080 looks garbage.

Not on a 16-inch screen.  It looks beautiful.  Even 1440x900 on my 17-inch looks great.
