I had this today again, but additionally to the missing texts my 'graphics' turned crazy.

At first I thought it is FSX related, but after closing FSX also Windows was turning crazy.

I had to restart.

In earlier time I had it more often.

My frame rate is set to 'unlimited'. It brings an increase in fps, but also increases the risk of this kind of crashes.

But my hope is to find out how to avoid it in the future.  Wink

Thanks to all of you for your input.  Because of your comments, I've done more exploring than I would have.  Haven't found a solution yet, but I have confidence there is one.  When it materializes, I will let you all know in CAPS.

Jim, I have one other suggestion for you since you mentioned that you graphics went "crazy". Edit your fsx.cfg file and in the [GRAPHICS] section, add the line:

HIGHMEMFIX=1

This might help your problem and will not hurt anything.

Thanks to all of you who have offered suggestions.  Because of your efforts to help me solve this, I have gone into areas not visited before.  Wouldn't have had the nerve to explore.  So far, (1) I have deleted the fsx.cfg file and relaunched the sim, (2) uninstalled and reinstalled the sim, (3) downloaded the latest drivers for the nVidia geForce 6800 card and (4) messed with settings for that on the control panel.  As yet, my problem still exists.  Since I removed and reinstalled the sim and still have the problem, my suspicions are beginning to focus on the nVidia card.   I downloaded nHancer but I get an error message when I try to launch it.  So, I will keep chipping away until the problem is removed.

Thanks again for your interest and suggestions.

Jim,

Do you use the nHancer utility?  If not, get it and set it up per Nick's settings.  Makes many graphics demons go back to the shadows.

I have a NVIDIA too, GeForce 8800 GTS.

I have made many optimizations, after I ran with higher frames and less problems:

- CCleaner
- game gain 2 (payware version)
- Disk defrag
- game booster included fsx defrag
- always the newest drivers

Additional it is important to let the CPU's and graphic card no other work do, like Skype, Internet Explorer, online games, and so on.

Sometimes I have the feeling that your computer have to rest. I am doing a lot of VA flights and after days and weeks I get those crashes more and more. I make a break, let the computer a few days off and after everything seems ok...
I am assuming someting, but too early to post it.

I did.  I downloaded nHancer and tried to run it but it keeps giving me an error message saying I don't have an nVidia.  Yep, I do.  So, for the moment nHancer is sitting in the hanger.

Even though I have to hunt in the dark on the dropdown menus, when I click on a blank space the option appears.  I will hunt and peck until I find the frame rate option and I will adjust it.  Fingers crossed time....

Made the change.  No difference.  It continues to be a puzzle.

I have changed it, frame rate is the same. Only FSX needs longer to load.

Every tenth or twentieth flight I had a crash. After a longer period I will report.

Actually I am flying my 6th VA flight in follow, all between 10 and 22 hours. No more crash happened, depite I often worked parallel with other programmes.

Thanks Tech Diver!  Smiley

Tom, I'm glad it worked for you. I used to always get corrupted graphics after one or two hours, particularly at night with landing lights on. But after the addition of HIGHMEMFIX=1, no more graphics anomalies.
