I use Vista 32 and FSX Acceleration.
I use AVAST free antivirus and its good.
But now that Microsoft has brought out their free antivirus and  there is AVG and also Avira - its time to review which makes the least demands on the computer
Any Ideas?

Personally I use AVG, no annoying pop ups, don't really have to allow anything from avg, and it is user friendly

I use VIPRE now. AVG never picked up on my last 3 malware attacks. VIPRE is sort of a three in one, and you can barely tell it is present. It isn't free, however.  Smiley

Smiley To each his own, we never now how good an anti virus program is untill it fails us. Vipre tends to cover more area than AVG covers. AVG, however, is very good at what it claims to do.  Wink

I am a die-hard Symantic (Nortons) user.   I started out with Nortons Antivirus 2004 and have kept Nortons till the current "Nortons Internet Security / Antivirus 2010"   .... It not only scans emails, webpages, background system scans while the computer is "dormant" (1 - 8 am while everyone is asleep)... It also scans every download as you are downloading and if it thinks there is a security issue, BLOCK & DELETE!!!!

In the past 6 years I have never had 1 antivirus get past it.   I have downloaded in total 50 Trojans by accident, but they were caught, quaranteend, and offending files removed BEFORE the file could even be saved to the computer.

Each person is going to have their Favorites.  One major question to ask instead of "what is the best antivirus??", is ..... "What is the WORST Antivirus that I need to stay away from?"

AVG is my virus protection, and I also run an iolo system mechanic security suite. But if I'm flying solo (I'll clear out all cookies an temp files) and shut it all down. The only protection on is the firewall, the only thing coming into my PC is jepppensen weather. Everything gets turned back on when I get on multiplayer except iolo (caused to many interruptions, but is great when web surfing), and AVG does cause a bit of lag, wish I could shut it down during multiplayer. But it's better to be safe than sorry!

This is my favorite too, it has served me well and I haven't had any issues with it Smiley It has an "active Guard" mode as well which scans files before opening them.

The only annoyance is that it has a pop up asking you to upgrade to the payware version when it updates everyday... But in my opinion still worth it even with the nag  Smiley

Don't get Norton, it's expensive, and doesn't pick up on many viruses.
Get Malware Bytes (free or to pay for) it's great!

Way-up!... Shocked...!

I just noticed that running Avira instantly found 3 hidden "Trojans" in my Computer that neither AVG, Spybot, or Malware could spot!... Shocked...!

..so Avira is another one to add to my list of Virus/Trojan Spotters!

Paul... Cool...!
