Good afternoon all... Smiley

I have just deleted the latest version of the "Tiger Moth" from the FSX download site here.

My computer works fine now with all aircraft.

When I downloaded this aircraft and I did it three (3) times and installed the program with the auto installer I got the fatal error message and FSX would either shut down or lock up.
When I tried several other aircraft with this program installed the same thing would happen.  About thirty seconds into the flight FSX would shut down or lock up.

Now with this program deleted everything is back to normal.

I went back three pages on this site to see if there were any other reports of such an error but did not see anything.

Perhaps it is the "Auto Installer" that my system does not like but I do not know.

Comments and advice most welcome.   Smiley

Doug. Downloading the same file more than once should not be necessary. If the zipfile was corrupt you would most likely have problems extracting it. If the auto-installer was incorrectly configured you're simply repeating a faulty install.

Not sure why the Tiger Moth would cause this problem. I've never trusted auto-installers & have always recommended directing the install path to a Temp folder & installing the files manually. Ant's new Tiger Moth was the first aircraft I tried in my new FSX after installing it only last week & I've not noticed any problems with it. I got the file from Ant's own site so I'm downloading it again from SimV to check it out. I'll let you know the results later.

Just a thought.

That affects AIR files, not proper auto-installers. It wouldn't cause a problem running FSX.

OK, just throwing an idea in.. Some of my downloads with auto installers were corrupt untill I uninstalled Adobe Air.

I think you got the wrong idea about that Steve. Installing Adobe AIR automatically associates all AIR files with itself & changes the file description from AIR File to Installer Package. That includes FS AIR files but it doesn't change them in any way. Adobe AIR thinks they're installers but they're still the same old FS AIR files that they always were & there is absolutely no need to double-click on them. The aircraft you were having problems with didn't have auto-installers.

I downloaded the Tiger Moth package from this page to check it out. http://www.simviation.com/simviation/?ID=66&page=20&mark=8234

After removing my previous install I ran the auto-installer & directed it to a Temp folder. Nothing unusual there & it's configured correctly. I installed it manually but it should work fine providing you point the installer to your FSX root directory. If your FSX is in the default location that would be the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X folder. I can see no reason why it would cause FSX to crash or conflict with any other aircraft.

Bear in mind that I tested this in FSX Deluxe with Acceleration on my ancient machine running WinXP. It previously worked perfectly well in the FSX Demo on the same machine.

Okay Doug...

Have just downloaded it again.

Now before I go to the auto installer I remember that after the installation was completed the last couple of times it asked me to register the auto installer program on a site provided by them.

This I did not do and the aircraft showed up on FSX but like I said after 30 seconds it shut down or locked up.

Is it necessary to register this auto installer program for this to work as maybe that is where my problem was.

I do not intend to install until you let me know.

Hi Doug. Is this what you're referring to?

...

It's quite normal. It was configured with the freeware version of the Clickteam Install Creator & there's no need to register it. The files have already been extracted by the time you see that message.

If you still get problems I suspect a conflict with the aircraft & something on your system. I believe you have Vista. Which version?

PS. Does the error message give any idea of what's causing the problem?

Good morning Doug and all... Smiley

Yes that is exactly the screen that shows up.

I am running:
Windows Vista Home Premium
Service Pack 2
AMD Athlon 64x2 dual core processor 5000+ 2.61 GHZ
Memory Ram is 4.00GB
System Type...32-Bit operating system

I have only used 90.9GB of space and the only program on here is FSX, no other games.
I shall wait for your reply before trying an install of that program again.

I've not seen any reported problems with this file in Vista. No reason you can't try installing it again but I'm not confident it will be any different from last time. Have you tried it from different airports?

Hi Doug... Smiley

Okay installed from link in your post and used the auto installer.
The only thing different I did was after the install I did a restart.

The aircraft seems to work ok now, have not did an extensive flight or anything, about 5 minutes with a few loops and rolls, everything seems to work ok now.

Perhaps with the auto installer I need to do a restart all the time, makes no sense to me.

Thanks for the help on this one and I want to install that C46 package now and was wondering if you know of any problems with it.  I guess it has an auto installer as well.

Not sure why restarting the PC should be necessary but if it worked who am I to argue?

Not all downloads come with an auto-installer, in fact I wish the darned things hadn't been invented. As I said earlier, I always redirect the install path to a Temp folder & install the files manually in the usual way. Running the installer is just the same as extracting zipfiles.

If you tell me where I can download this C-46 I can check it out for you.

Hi Doug

It is page seven in the FSX download section here.  I did a post on it because quite awhile back I had problems with the aircraft engine controls and the guages were difficult to read.
I just downloaded it and it has an auto installer as well.
