WINNERS, WINNERS, WINNERS

Judge Lunitic_8 says:
“Thanks guys for participating this week, I haven't seen a JC this active in a long time!! The bar was set EXTREMELY high, and I'm glad no one gave up. All the shots were so beautiful, I had such a rough time choosing just one”

Gtirob01!!

...

"For me, that is the pic by Lunitic_8. No aircraft, but a great view of the big open country that is Australia. Huge expanses of nothing really special...I love it!
The great scenery helps, FTX me thinks. He called his shot 'outback', but to me it looks more like the 'civilised' part of Oz. I guess I spent too much time in place like the Pilbara..!"

CONGRATULATIONS Gtiob01!!!!

"Skoker takes second place!"

...

"Amazing cloud cover, I love how thick the layer is. Plus the contrast of all the colors. My suggestion is you get rid of the black bars I think they obscure the beautiful screenshot."

Applepie takes home third!'

...

"I love the silhouette of the 747, The sky hes the perfect mix of red/orange   The airport lights on the ground just improve this shot so much! good job!"

Nice work on a great comp!

Gtirob01 is on the bench this week! Can't wait to see what he comes up with for a theme. Smiley
A big congratulations to the other finalists, and great job to all that entered.

Cheers

Mitch.

Is commercial really the defining factor, or is it any multi passenger aircraft, commercial, private, or military?

Excellent question, Larry!

Look at the ATR-72 or Dash 8. Tubes if I ever saw one.

Commercial/private/military as long as it falls into the category of a "Tube" it will be accepted.  Cool

Not sure who this was directed at, but since Aussies shot is the one before it, I'll address it as if that was the shot you were talking about.  Wink

RaptorF22 wrote on Feb 25th, 2010 at 8:20am:

How is that not a sunset?  Huh

It looks pretty low in the sky to me.  Wink

Is the technical definition of a sunset now down to what color the sky is, or should we just be going on it's position in the sky?

If it's based on color only, which time of day & hue of color exactly defines when the sun is 'setting'

If we need to be really anal about it, then any time from 12:01 p.m. on, is technically a sunset, because after 12:00, the sun is beginning it's path toward setting.

And what about the poor souls who like to fly in the polar regions, where the sun doesn't set?

Or, we have the Wiki definition:

Quote:
Sunset is the daily disappearance of the sun below the horizon as a result of the Earth's rotation. The atmospheric conditions created by the setting of the sun, occurring before and after it disappears below the horizon, are also commonly referred to as "sunset".

The time of sunset is defined in astronomy as the moment the trailing edge of the sun's disk disappears below the horizon in the west.

Due to refraction of light in the atmosphere, the ray path of the setting sun is highly distorted near the horizon making the apparent astronomical sunset occur when the sun’s disk is already about one diameter below the horizon.

Sunset should not be confused with dusk, which is the moment at which darkness falls, when the sun is about eighteen degrees below the horizon. The period between the astronomical sunset and dusk is called twilight.

This definition could disqualify every shot entered so far, in one way or another, and it also supports every shot entered so far.

This is why interpretation of the rules in the JC contest is left up to the judge, and not the participants.

What RaptorF22 may not consider to be a sunset, Chad might, and the opposite is also true.

Come on Judge Lunitic, what is your official definition of a sunset here?  Grin  Wink

This is starting to look like Judge Raptor's contest in here.  Wink

Hence this very important statement:

This is why interpretation of the rules in the JC contest is left up to the judge, and not the participants.

Don't let your competitor talk you out of the contest. Let the judge do his job.  Wink

Everyone's looking great... wish I had the time to participate this week.  I'm about 4.5 hours from sunrise over the Atlantic right now.

Congratulations to the winners!!! Looking forward to the next one, as always.

Jordan, you know it's against the rules for you to get anything but 2nd or 3rd in these things!  Wink Grin

Cool, thanks Man! I've been MIA the last few days, and likely wont get to have anything until tomorrow to get the jc going. If thats a problem, just let me know Mitch.

My specs... A hard drive, motherboard, graphics card, some memory, a keyboard, mouse, and monitor - in other words, nothing special.
