Not sure who this was directed at, but since Aussies shot is the one before it, I'll address it as if that was the shot you were talking about.  Wink

No sunset!!! Grin

How is that not a sunset?  Huh

It looks pretty low in the sky to me.  Wink

Is the technical definition of a sunset now down to what color the sky is, or should we just be going on it's position in the sky?

If it's based on color only, which time of day & hue of color exactly defines when the sun is 'setting'

If we need to be really anal about it, then any time from 12:01 p.m. on, is technically a sunset, because after 12:00, the sun is beginning it's path toward setting.

And what about the poor souls who like to fly in the polar regions, where the sun doesn't set?

Or, we have the Wiki definition:

Quote:
Sunset is the daily disappearance of the sun below the horizon as a result of the Earth's rotation. The atmospheric conditions created by the setting of the sun, occurring before and after it disappears below the horizon, are also commonly referred to as "sunset".

The time of sunset is defined in astronomy as the moment the trailing edge of the sun's disk disappears below the horizon in the west.

Due to refraction of light in the atmosphere, the ray path of the setting sun is highly distorted near the horizon making the apparent astronomical sunset occur when the sun’s disk is already about one diameter below the horizon.

Sunset should not be confused with dusk, which is the moment at which darkness falls, when the sun is about eighteen degrees below the horizon. The period between the astronomical sunset and dusk is called twilight.

This definition could disqualify every shot entered so far, in one way or another, and it also supports every shot entered so far.

This is why interpretation of the rules in the JC contest is left up to the judge, and not the participants.

What RaptorF22 may not consider to be a sunset, Chad might, and the opposite is also true.

Come on Judge Lunitic, what is your official definition of a sunset here?  Grin  Wink

This is starting to look like Judge Raptor's contest in here.  Wink

Sorry Shane!  Embarrassed
I removed my shot as it had no sunset in it (and therefore was not applicable).

...Frequent Flyer... Confusing moderators since 2009 Tongue

Sorry again for the confusion, I won't remove my post next time.

Hence this very important statement:

This is why interpretation of the rules in the JC contest is left up to the judge, and not the participants.

Don't let your competitor talk you out of the contest. Let the judge do his job.  Wink
