In the last two weeks my FSX has been acting strangely.  I'll hardly be down the runway (no matter what craft I'm using) when I suddenly take off and immediately go almost to the nose up position, inducing a stall.  Even if I push the yoke all the way forward it barely comes back down. The only way things go back to "normal" is if I punch in the autopilot and then cancel it once I'm up about 7000 feet or so.

The other strange thing is when I go to the Free Flight page I end up at "Brothers Aviation" field instead of the default field and the ultra-light craft is replaced by a Pan-Am 707.

I haven't installed anything new in the way of aircraft and I'm running FSX with SP2.   This had really got me frustrated.  Any ideas or am I doomed to do a reinstall?

thanks.

Mike

Check your elevator trim before taking off..

Sounds like you inadvertantly saved a flight with a 707 as default. ?

I think his problem is that when he pulls back his power goes down.
The opposite thing happened to me. When I was pulling up in normal flight, it would add full power.
Try reseting the game. That worked for me.
And are you saying the 707 is there even though you haven't installed it? If so I can't help you there.
If not, maybe when saving a flight, you clicked the checkbox 'set as default flight'.

If you have a joystick I'd suggest checking the settings.

Sounds like you have a similar problem to what I had when I upgraded to a better model....turned out my axis and neutral zone had a bit of a "brainfart" and were way out of adjustment.

If your power icreases on its own, when you pitch up..  that's the auto-throttle trying to mainain an airspeed  Wink

His symptoms sound like way too much nose-up trim.. though it could be autopilot related too...  the autopilot has been trying to climb since he started taxiing.. THAT would force the trim ALL the way up.. so when he nears rotation speed.. WHOOSH, straight up ..

Good evening... Smiley

I tend to agree with Brett.

When you say you engage the autopilot and then the aircraft is fine at 7000 ft then what has happened is you cranked in too much trim and once the autopilot is engaged it trims the aircraft for the rate of climb and then at level flight.  When you disengage the autopilot at 7000 ft the aircraft is already in trim.
If this is happening all the time then you must have saved your trim setting somewhere.

If you are flying from an already saved flight then I would delete that flight and replan it before I would do a complete reinstall.

Always remember and never forget...  the realistic instincts (like checking trim before takeoff), are best learned in small, slow, training aircraft  Wink

There are too many things going on (even in the sim).. to just hop into big jets  Cool

...I fear we are fighting a losing battle on that score!... Wink...!

ALWAYS check the position of the Elevator Trim Wheel as soon as entering the Cockpit, and making sure that the Autopilot is switched OFF....
The Trim Wheel indicator should be in the centre position, or slightly below it (very slight nose up) for take off.
Disaster can happen very quickly if the Aeroplane is not correctly trimmed for take off!.. Shocked...!

For longevity, the Cessna 172 Trainer is your source for learning about such things!... Smiley...!

Hey guys...thanks for all the help.  I did find the culprit - it was a saved flight (JFK to STL) that I was fooling around with before vacation and forgotten about.  Went in and deleted it and when FSX opened there was the Ultralight!

I changed it to the Mooney and plopped it down at KSUS and attempted a take-off...no stall!  I can fly (and I use the term loosely) again!  Many, many thanks for the help.
