When repainting an aircraft that is DXT3 with no alpha channel, is it possible to add an alpha channel and add shine without transparency?

...
If God intended aircraft engines to have horizontally opposed engines, Pratt and Whitney would have made them that way.

The alpha channel effect varies from plane to plane.  Usually the lower quality models, and ones made for 2k2 will be transparent.  However, you can not create a shine with them.  They do it in later models too to reduce the fps loss and keep size down.  That is why aiaardvark planes com in normal models and reflective ones.

As an addition to Skoker's answer, when modelling in GMax, when applying a texture, you also have to apply a specular map. Without it the model is transparent. also see this thread.

Thanks Jakes, but it really doesn't help me, other than a little better understanding of why. I have enough headaches just doing textures. I don't have the brain power for modeling; not enough Tylenol ether.  Roll Eyes Grin

It was just a really long way to tell you that if the alpha channel is not added in the modelling program, It cannot be added later  Undecided terribily sorry  Cry
