Hey all,

I've recently reinstalled FS9 on my computer and gotten myself re-addicted to this madness. I'm going through my old mods, and I'm wanting to make landable helipads so  can land on buildings in my scenery. I know folks have managed to do this with ships they've built, and I was wondering if anyone can let me in on the secret to this design trick.

Thanks!

1 even easier.  download AFCAD221 (http://www.simviation.com/fs2004utilities1.htm 2nd one down) and install it.

Get in a helicopter and go land on a roof (REMINDER:: IF YOU SEE YOUR SHADOW ON THE ROOF, YOU CAN LAND ON IT. NO SHADOW=NO LAND)

Hit "Y" to get in slew and turn your aircraft to point to one of the sides.

Minimize FS by hitting ALT+TAB.   Start your AFCAD221 program.  Open folder all the way to the left,  just put in any airport (KATL) On the top bar, you should see an icon for a LOCK. this locks your AFCAD program to Flight sim, you will then be magically transported to where your aircraft is located on top of the building.  if you turn/move in flight sim, you turn/move in AFCAD.

INSERT / HELIPAD ... (insert the missing information)

Click on the Disk Icon to save the information.  (if you are not editing an addon scenery file, save this Helipad to your ADDON SCENERY / SCENERY folder).

you can do this to as many buildings that you want.

Dont forget to restart your flight sim so that changes can take effect.

If you want something a little different than just a concrete square on top of a building, then you will need an OBJECT PLACEMENT TOOL such as RUNWAY12, or Abacus EZ-Scenery.   RWY12 is free, EZ-Scenery is payware.

(see top pic and very bottom pic --- it is a Square Helipad that is raised off the ground like 2 feet with a staircase on the side -- I used EZ-Scenery to place it.  If you need/want a closer up pic of one like 'that' let me know and Ill take some shots and post em here being that these are kinda far away)

Yep, for some reason, it wouldn't come up when I used their search engine. I emailed one of the guys on the site and he linked me right to it. Customer service rocks.

What I'm trying to do is "solidify" existing helipads on 3rd party scenery, such as this one on the Roppongi Hills Mori Tower in Tokyo:

Edit: Hmmm, the pictures do not seem to be loading. It's just not my day for technology, I suppose. Oh well, I put them on Photobucket and here are the links:

then in that case, follow the 1st 1/2 of what I posted with the AFCAD221 program.

OR

if you could provide a link to where you found the buildings, or if they are default, I will set up the necessary Helipad files for you and then email them to you, and all you would have to do is put it in your ADD SCENERY, activate and restart ... happy landing.

It's payware, from JapanScenery, which was expensive (over $100 at that time) and now no longer in business. I'll keep working on it myself, as it's one of those things I need to try learn master.

if you need/want any help with anything let me know. I feel that I have mastered AFCAD221, and I can also build scenery files from scratch.  (already built 2.  KDVI - Desert View International ~ available here... and 1 more that is about to be released by the end of this week - PAWH, Alaska Winter Home)

the scenery that you are trying to work on.... is it possibly the JAPANSCENERY - PHOTOREALISTIC TOKYO ??  If it is, I can get it.  Smiley

Thanks, I appreciate it.

Yes, that's the one. I suspect you'll be able to acquire it a lot cheaper than I did.  Cool

If anyone is interested, there is an Illustrated Tutorial available on the subject of using Afcad to "harden" surfaces (buildings or ships) so they will support landings.

The filename is afc_hard.zip

Not sure if it is in the library here but of not, it is available at Avsim.
