what's the point of getting 300+ FPS?
I think the human eye registers at a little over 30fps.

Well with all the settings down I get like 60fps Embarrassed

OH NO! Another true scientific point! True enough, but that isn't THEE point. The idea is to use FSX to work the GARBAGE out of a PC. BURN IT!  Cheesy Grin

Pardon me if I misunderstand what you mean about working the garbage out of a pc.  Do you mean using FSX to help you optimize your system?  Or do you mean using FSX to bring a PC to its knees?  call me Confused.

You are not really demonstrating anything running a 2d cockpit, on a single screen, pointing at 1024 or 2048 cirrus clouds.  Your sliders might be to the right, but you clearly aren't maxing out anything.  You are fixating on the best case performance, while people who actually want to do Flight Simulation, tune their system for the worst case.

I keep waiting to see somebody getting adequate/smooth fps in a PMDG airplane at MegaAirport Heathrow, perhaps throw in some Ultimate Terrain and GEX, Shockwave lights, during lousy weather, on multiple screens, in VC...using at least 16x Anti Aliasing.  See how maxxed out your sliders and shadow checkboxes get there!  If you fps competitors want to put your rigs to the test, then put it to the test!

Not trying to be rude, really, just that there are a lot of people who are constantly fighting the battle to even get useable frame rates, (like in the low-20s) and it kind of gets tedious to see generalizations made about FSX performance based on easiest-case benchmarks.

Yeah, I read the other thread, and almost became embroiled in that flame war myself, before thinking better of it.

I think one thing you should keep in mind, is that most of the people on here just want some good flight simming entertainment and don't want a mega-battle between Intel vs AMD.  The great thing about FS is that it is a "game" where you aren't competing against anyone but yourself.  The my framerates are better than your framerates type discussions annoy a lot of people and you risk coming across as a braggart.  Just my 2 cents, no flame intended.

Hooboy do I ever know what you're talking about! I wasn't trying to be a "mine is better than yours" type of guy.
I got told that, basically, no matter what I do, my stuff is garbage, that I'm a rumor-spreader, don't know what I'm talking about, etc.
All I was hoping to do in the beginning was try to help a guy, and break the "you need this, or you suck" cycle of garbage. It ended up being a pissing contest between a braggart and a jerk (not sure which one I am).

I was just trying to start a little FRIENDLY competition, like "This is the best I got" or, "I can get this, after trying this" or "Wow. How can I get that" type of thing. Well, it blew up, and I find me having to defend myself, and my experiences and knowledge, for all it seems to matter. Apparently, I don't know anything, and I suck, and I'm a lousy boyfriend, drive too slow, my driver's license picture is ugly, all kinds of stuff. Apparently also, there is no "FRIENDLY" competition for some folks. I had no idea, and am sorry for the tragic results.
