I don't quite know how to explain it, but I'm having FSX stop for split seconds and run smooth in between that. How do I fix this?

I think that might be the Hard Drive.  Try defragmenting using O&O

Why Paul & I cannot acheive 50+ FPS in FSX :

Isn't the FSX FPS counter, really inaccurate ?  I know it was way  off in FS2002 & FS9. One of the things that made chasing the FPS snipe so maddening.

Oh dear God, how I remember THAT...

Well, of course you can get 100+ FPS if you compromise with the visuals.. I have almost constant 30 FPS (locked@30) with almost everything to the max (just AI traffic and cars are not max - AI at 59%, cars&boats at 0%). I don't use bloom. I have no idea why would I set anything on medium or mesh to 50% as this guy suggests. And my computer cost almost the same!

I really don't know how to set up a good frame rate. I just put everthing on max and my flights work good. A problem I do have though is the replay. When I do a replay, it will skip or change speeds and go crazy. Any suggestions?

When you use replay try using the locked spot view.

I defraged with the default one, is that ok?
It helped, but it's still noticeable.

I really don't understand how people are always throwing around their FPS metrics without elaboration as to what plane they are running, and where, and with what addons, and vc or not.   I have a pretty powerful system and am constantly struggling with low fps or smoothness issues.  Obviously, There is a heck of a big difference between running plain FSX with a Cessna over nowhereland, versus trying to depart LAX with a hefty airliner + mesh + landclass + hi res textures + external weather + addon traffic.  Add in a Matrox setup.  A core I7 can be brought to its knees.
So when you say you have a $600 dollar computer and get super-duper performance with most sliders maxxed...that really depends on what your standard of "maxxed" is and it has to do with a lot more than just the sliders.

Level-D 767 VC, SLO4FSX (payware scenery for my country), ASA, REX, UTX Europe, GEXEu, UT2 (airline traffic 100%, GA 0%), FSPassengersX, FS Global 2008, 3D Lights REDUX, FS2Crew, standing on EGSS by UK2000 Scenery. What?

But my computer was not $600 but "a bit" more.

Hm, snippyfsxer, you have similar computer than mine, your RAM timings are even better (mine 9-9-9-don't remember)... did you follow Nick's recommendations? I have no problems with smoothnes and FPS. Ok, on KJFK with traffic at 100%, heavy thunderstorms, facing terminal building, they can drop to around 19. I don't use cars, bloom and casting shadows on itself. Big FPS eaters. Autogen at very dense, water at low 2x.

I defrag regulary and don't have any unnessesary garbage on my computer. That's it.

I just saw you are using 3 monitors.. performance can drop in this cases.

Heh, I should update my signiture Smiley

Nice set-up Tomaz, but I really don't understand why you have a "Caviar Green" HHD!

Go Black instead, a 2 TB with only FSX on and defragged properly will perform close to a Raptor IMO...
