Probably more effective to KILL som processes and programs at start-up me think...
Slimmed and trimmed in the New Year!
Actually, I made a .bat file to do that every startup. You'd be amazed how much junk there is running on your system. Be sure to look in "Show processes for all users" and kill the unnecessary ones in there. LOTS of demanding stuff that you don't need in there, including two of the same Nvidia process I had on my PC. You can also use this:
http://www.iobit.com/gamebooster.html to squeeze a few more fps out of your system. You can also kill dwm.exe to quickly disable aero and other not very noticeable "visual enhancements" on Vista & Win7 systems. Disable Wi-Fi if you are flying Free Flight, and you can also disable security programs, too. Just make sure to start them up again when you start internet again.
Btw, have you ever actually noticed cursor shadows, or shadows under windows that are in performance options in advanced system settings that are enabled by default? Nope, neither have I. They suck up resources, too. You can probably disable them without even noticing they are gone.
Asus G71GX-RX05 from BestBuy. 2.53GHz Intel Core 2 Duo P8700 (Very easily overclocked by 15%, 25% for xtreme live-or-die sessions),
