Does anyone know of any freeware for repainting aircraft?

Depends which version of FS. For FS9 all you need is DXTBmp & a decent graphics editor. There's plenty of freeware editors to choose from including GIMP & Paint.NET.

For "true FSX" aircraft with DDS textures you might need Imagetool included with the FSX SDK.

I found this excellent free graphics editor yesterday. Genuine Freeware.  It will do all you need. http://www.photopos.com/Photo-Pos-Pro-Image-Editor.asp
