What is in your opinion the TOP 4 Must have freeware addons for FS2004? give reasons for your answers?

my list of essential MUST HAVE's is
1: HDE  ( It is the best freeware clouds I know of, and does not really slow your system down)
2: Softhorizons ( make the horizon flying at high altitude look more realistic)
3: FSRecorder ( not only to record flights and formation flying, but also for the adjustable camera views)
4: SRTM (AT LEAST76m) Terrain mesh for your country or the world if you can. It makes your landscape so much more true!

Hope it will help someone someday!  Smiley

I know you asked for 4, but I couldn't decide which of these were the four most important to me.  Wink  These addons are the first, and sometimes only, 10 things I install when I do a reinstall of FS9.

No particular order...

1. HDE- (saved me $50!  Smiley )

2. FSRecorder - never take a dull screen shot again!

3. F1 view - Essential 'walk & follow' style camera addon, used for exploring VC & cabins, and cool camera angles.

4. AI traffic by PAI, MAIW, and VOZ - ALL OF THEM, I have them all, and no matter where I go in the FS9 world, I have tons of real world airlines filling my airports & skies.  Cool

5. The SRTM world mesh from Simviation - ALL of it.  It took me forever to download it all, but I'm glad I did. Mountain ranges and valleys the world over get a stunning make over.  Even slight dips in the land near my home are clearly represented properly. That alone makes it a mandatory VFR addon for me.

6. Holger's Environment upgrade - this one is actually a combination of several packages, that the very talented Holger Sandman came up with for his FS9 water & land textures. There is no official download for it, and it's only mentioned in a single forum posting. You have to hunt down all of these different addons, and then combine the files he recommends from each package.  The end results are stunning for freeware to say the least.
Sadly, I think that one or two of the base packages are no longer available.  I'm still trying to contact all of the authors involved, in order to receive permission to upload it as a single pack.  It would be a real shame to lose such a great upgrade to FS9. Wink

7. The complete works of Holger Sandman & David 'Opa' Marshall. - my first downloaded addons were the Colombia River Gorge area, and all of the updates by Holger & Opa. I flew nowhere but there for almost a year, and I'm sure, I never saw all of it  Shocked .  Also the Glacier Bay scenery, the Cascades, Namibia in Africa, Opa's camp ground, Bear Creek Winery & Lodge, and above all, the "Tips & Tricks" series by Opa, just to name a few.  If their names are attached to it...it's a must have.  Wink

8.  VOZ 1.8 - Best freeware Australia/world enhancement available for FS9.  I based the Simviation online hoplist on this addon. This is FTX's older freeware brother. The bonus is, that it affects the entire worlds appearance, for the good. Cool

9. FS tutorial C150 - This plane is for FS9, what the FS Insider Just Flight C152 is for FSX. Nuff said.  Wink

10. Every plane made by, or worked on by Milton Shupe - Excellent top quality work, nice variety of sizes & styles. Makes you wonder why the defaults couldn't have been that nice.  Cool

I agree with 99.9%. If I only had the HD space.   Sad

2. FSRecorder

1)  Real Environment Pro~really brings out the look and feel of different ground environments as well as the horizon and sky
2)  HDE Texture (clouds)~best freeware clouds for FS9 hands down
3)  Traffic View Board (If you're really into AI)
4)  FS Recorder~the possibilities are endless.
