I installed a second version of the Douglas C-133B Cargomaster from either flightsim or simviation, and tried to get in touch with the developer, Tim Conrad. My email bounced, but maybe one of you could lend a hand. Here's a portion of my email to Tim:

I downloaded and installed your beautiful C-133B Cargomaster yesterday. As it turns out I have two versions of the C-133: one listed under “Douglas Aircraft” in FS2004’s Select Aircraft box (let’s call this one “DA”); the other listed under “Douglas” (let’s call this one “D.”) “DA”s exterior has panels of different shades and a very realistic instrument panel; “D” has a more uniform color exterior and a flat gray instrument panel with no other colors.

I found that both have very different flying characteristics, even though both sets of files appear to be identical. “DA” will cruise at 170 kts with the throttle in idle. It will also not slow down below 150 kts on final with full flaps, gear down, and throttles in idle. “D” responds very well to throttle changes. I like the way “D” flies, but I prefer “DA”s instrument panel.

I tried to move “DA”s instrument panel into “D”, but “D” still had the flat gray panel. I haven’t been able to find any differences in either airplane’s FS04 files. I changed “D”s panel file name to XXXpanel.cfg, and cut and pasted “DA”s panel.cfg into “D”s files. This didn’t work, although it usually does. Can you suggest how I can swap instrument panels?

Try this procedure:

1. Make a Copy of the panel you like.
2. Rename it Panel.DA (or some other name you prefer) Note the period between the word panel and the name you use.
3. Paste this panel into the aircraft folder that you prefer.
4. In that aircraft's aircraft.cfg file, change the panel= line to reflect the name you gave the "new" panel.  You would need to make that change on each variation the aircraft may have.

Example:  If you called it panel.DA

The panel= line should read panel=DA

(The word panel is not needed after the equal sign, only the "name").

No edits are needed in the panel.cfg file.

See if that works for you.   Wink

Hi Opa,

Here's how it all turned out:

I deleted both C-133B folders, and looked for the C-133B file someone suggested. I downloaded and installed Mike Stone's model (this is the one with the gray panel I referred to as "D" in my initial post). To make it more "operational," I dropped the clock and turn needle, and replaced them with the DC-6B's OBS and Boeing Stratocruiser's DME. I also hung the Lear 45's autopilot panel near the top of the screen between the C-133's center windshield posts. And I'll be damned -- they all work! I might continue to swap instruments to make the panel look even better, but I've had enough "fun" for one day.

In Tim Conrad's readme.txt file, he said that some of the gauges and switches were dummies, so I guess it's not going to be as flyable as the one I'm using. But I will keep a copy of your suggestion for future use. Thanks for your help.
