I'm looking to upgrade my phone from a Nokia 3510i (I know.....it's a bit of a brick and the buttons are starting to stick Tongue)

I'm looking for a smartphone that has wifi, 3G etc between £100-200....it can be second hand. Anyone got any ideas? Currently I'm looking at a secondhand HTC Tytn II (A friend had one and it was quite nice), but I'm open to suggestions.....

I think its an excellent place for this.  A smart phone can be considered a piece of "Computer Hardware".  IMHO.

The forum doesn't say it has to be about FS.  Just "Computer Hardware & Software".

In answer, my bro-in-law has an iPhone.  That's the only "smart phone" I've had my hands on.  Dont much care for it.  Just too much NOT like a phone for my tastes.

I still use a Nokia flip phone (dont remember the model).  Calls, a few text messages, the occaisonal e-mail and the even more rare web surfing and it has a flash for taking pictures.  Good pictures at that.  Just dont need much more for my needs.

Bro-in-law seems to be roused up about "Android".  Check it out?

FS isn't everything once in a while. Wink

I would go for the Blackberries or Palm pre but I don't know if they sell them there in the U.K.

I agree. I have an iPhone and one of the things I like about it is that it's not like a phone.

It's more of a palm sized computer that happens to include a phone.

The display is large, even the phone buttons are large and so is the displayed keyboard. I had my hands on my boss's Blackberry and I asked him how in the heck is he ever able to use those tiny keys?! It supports many languages and can change from German standard back to english at the press of a button.

I can access my home network using my iPhone, use iTunes for playing and buying if I like, and use the computer to configure the phone. I have a speaking translator, a currency converter, Paypal, e-Bay, and nearly everything I have that I use on a desktop PC.

The best part for me is that the internet looks just like the internet on a home computer. No 'mobile' browsers, or the internet that looks 'almost' like the internet, but the real internet.

OK, now I sound like a commercial. I don't work for Apple, nor have I ever owned (or ever plan to own) an Apple computer, but device is probably one of the best things in the smartphone world. You just have to try it out and play with one for awhile.

BTW, I also get real-time world-wide ATIS and METAR weather for free from any station reporting when I request it for use while in the cockpit.  Smiley

My blackberry is the only smart phone I have ever used but like it. If I upgrade it will be to a newer blackberry.

In Canada the local phone company practically gives them away with a 3 year contract.

Thanks for the advice all, but I never really wanted an iPhone....not a great fan of Apple's marketing and OS. So I've gone for an HTC Hero, which I missed being delivered today but should get my hands on omorrow....It's like an iPhone but on Android (and therefore much better Tongue)
