This maybe weird but I was just thinking about these two thoughts over the past few weeks as I was watching shows dealing with aviation on discovery channel.

1) Train's or trams -
Trains seem to be the next zone of interest. Anybody interested in adding airport trains or just trains in general? I know this is a Flight Sim but seeing as we have cars and boats why not trains? Tongue.

If the players were to use it:
(Free flight mode)
Choose the train, choose a departure destination (pop up appears that whines if you don't choose train station) and have the train go on a pre-determined route, probably set on a untouchable auto-pilot mode, as the "train pilot" commands the throttle and everything else. The train would follow the route from the selected airport as it makes its way to the city and possibly back. If it actually works then it could be expanded from "airport to airport" or "city to city"

If the Ai were to use it:
The AI could give it a "Be a passenger" feeling within free flight. Choose a "Human" as aircraft, spawn at "Train gate 1", hop on the train using "Ctrl + shift + enter commands" and just enjoy the ride. The AI would notify you as to what station you are arriving at. You could freely walk around wthin the passenger cars within your "human" form as you pace around the city and such.

- Narita Airport to Haneda (or city of Tokyo itself)
- Ottawa to Toronto (and vice versa, VIA Rail service)
- London to Paris (The underground tunnel, though I think FSX dislikes underground stuff)

Be a passenger example:

2) Foam overshoot -
Basically an "overshoot" foam padding that that are located at the end tips of the runways to stops the aircraft from landing within the waters or into the nearby forest/city. They could stop small planes and up to 747-400's (Maybe even the new Airbus).

I tend to make silly mistakes by leaving my auto-throttle on or sometimes the plane's throttle just revs up too high that I can't do anything about it when I land. Is it possible to simulate this overshoot foam? I doubt I've seen it in FSX as my planes occasionally overshoot from pilot/auto-pilot error. I'm know of one at J.F.K airport but I haven't dwelled deeper into other airports having it.

-------

Whats your say? I'm actually looking forward to what you guys and gals may say to the train idea. If this turns out to be already done in payware I'm going to facepalm as I can't afford those things. You guys are so cruel with them Sad.

(Oh, and my smartass sensors are ringing. Nobody say to grab Train Simulator 2 or go on an actual plane or train. I'm just giving out ideas.......)

1.  There is a Train Simulator out there that will do most of what you want, and probably better than FS could.

2.  Technically what you are talking about is called an EMAS system.  It isn't foam, but an expanded type of concrete that is full of air bubbles (sort of like foam).  This causes the concrete to collapse under the weight of an aircraft.  As for putting it into FS, I haven't seen it.  I guess it could be done similar to the arresting wires of an aircraft carrier.

I'm just trying to see how creative the flight sim community is and not all that worried about quality. Just seeing who is like minded and who ain't.

EMAS System? Ya, thats what I'm talking about, thanks. The show on Discovery Channel said it was foam so I said it was, no wonder I couldn't find google search results Tongue.

I know the show you're talking about. It would be very cool to see this in FS.

Cool

It would be cool, and it could be done.
You would have to have an imaginary tailhook on planes and invisible cables at the end of the runwway Smiley
Not sure how hard this would be to add to airports and or default aircraft.
