Frankie was good though, Mule Train, Rawhide, That Lucky Old Sun, Riders In The Sky, High Noon, Cool Water, North To Alaska, (my fav), Tumbling Tumbleweed, The Hangin' Tree, and more.
Wait a minute. "Riders in the sky" - Vaughn Monroe. "Cool Water" "Tumblin' Tumbleweed" - Sons of the Pioneers. "The Hanging Tree" - Marty Robbins. "North to Alaska" - Johnny Horton. Most of the time I can't remember my name but this stuff - piece of cake
.
Sorry, guess I did not explain enough. I wasn't saying he originated, just that he recorded them at some point. But since you brought it up, I have the Smarty Robbins Gunfighter Ballads album on vinyl and the Johnny Horton one with Battle of New Orleans, Sink The Bismark, North To Alaska and more. I just can't remember the name of the album and checking the discography doesn't help. The only one that sounds like/cover looks like I remember is Battle of New Orleans, released in 1971 and I got mine several years before that. And it is too difficult to get to right now to physically check it. I made an inventory of my albums a long time ago but apparently, it got lost changing computers.
And I can no longer depend 100% on memory. I don't guess you would know anything about that.

I also had a CD with Johnny Horton hit's on it, I think the name was "Johnny Horton's Greatest Hits".
That don't sing 'em like that any more.

"Running Bear"! I love that song. Have not thought of it in a very long time.
