Hello,  I am new to this forum and I hope that you will be able to help me.   My problem is that when I load up fs9 and I am in the cockpit view, I get a very thin white line across the top of the screen, changing the view, ie. spot, tower, vc. this line remains.  This problem only occurs when I have clouds in view (default/active sky),  if I have clear skies then I do not see this line.  I have changed my video drivers, new and older, also experimented with display settings including screen settings.   I have tried to capture this line on a picture but it does not show up.

Your comments would be most welcome.

Thank you

mondeoman,

Hi and welcome to SimV.

Unfortunately this is not something that I can help you with, but I would expect that someone here will eventually help you figure this out.

You might want to append your question with a lot of the specs on your hardware and on the exact setup you are running in the sim. For example you mention activesky......which version?  What other stuff besides that is installed?  What is your video card?  What's the machine?  And so on.  The more info people have the more likely they will be able to help.

best,

I suffer a similar effect.

In my case it is due to a line of of "Dead Pixels" across the top of my LCD Monitor which appear as a thin white line in certain views, depending upon the background colour and contrast.
Apart from changing my Monitor, there is nothing that can be done about the problem.

microlight.   As mentioned in my original post, I have taken pictures but they do not show when viewed later.  This line is very very thin but after a while it becomes annoying.

Hum.... there on the screen but not there in the picture file.  Sounds like maybe FOzzer has it nailed.........monitor issue?

How old is your monitor? Does it stay on for decades at a time? Might be just plain wearin' out...

hhomebrewer,   the monitor is about 2 years old and although its on most days I would not say that it gets excessive use.    Yesterday I started a flight without clouds, no white line, after climbing to 20,000 ft I decided to add clouds, still no white line. At this point all clouds were beneath the aircraft, on descent, as the aircraft got closer to the cloud layer, then the white line started to appear.  Now if the white line is not visible against a clear blue sky, why would it appear when it becomes cloudy?

I will try later today to see if this problem remains when I try a different monitor.

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions.

Good idea to try a different monitor. I don't use any add-on clouds or water, so I can't speak to any problems you might have with them. I don't know if it would make a difference, but I assume you will use the same type of monitor (LCD or CRT) for the test as you are using when the problem presents itself? Let us know how it progresses...

...in my case the line of dead Pixels only appear visible under certain colour and contrast conditions.
The line of dead Pixels appear black on a white (light) background, and white on a black (dark) background.

It is a common fault with LCD Monitors (mine is 2 years  old), and dead pixels appeared on the monitor even when it was new. The Manufacturers are allowed to accept so many dead Pixels on their Monitor screens.

As has been suggested, try another LCD Monitor?
I will soon be needing a new one, due to this annoying fault...Wink...!

Unfortunately I will not be able to do a test on another monitor soon as my other monitor only has an analogue connection, whereas my video card is only digital.

I did a dead pixel test earlier, which did not show any dead pixels, I am not sure how reliable this test was, but I have provided a link if anyone wants to comment.

Once again many thanks to all who have replied.

Update:      As I am unable to get hold of another monitor for sometime with the digital connections, I decided to use a thin black marker pen and run it across the top of my monitor, no more white line.

Frustration eased.

Thanks to everyone for their help.

An analog solution in a digital age. Being an old printing press operator, I say: "If it works, do it..."
