Ok I have to reload my OS onto a bigger drive, and I already have sata 1TB drive.

All of this is so I can run FSX faster and more maxed out.

Should I:

-continue with this plan to swap every thing over to the much larger HDD?
-Shell out the money and get the 256gb SSD?
-Or wait till there is a 500gb SSD?

For that much money, I'd upgrade other components on the computer. $700 is enough for what? An decent i7, decent DDR3, and a decent mobo? That would improve fsx performance more than any SSD could.

Or buy a smaller SSD, because unlike a conventional hard disk, smaller doesn't necessarily mean slower.

Just seems to me like a waste of money.

Or maybe I'm jealous.

The reason I would go with a 256gb is because my 160gb that is in it now, only has 10gb of space left, between all the FSX stuff I down loaded and installed, and the Command & Conquer stuff also.

So I figure if I don't install something with more space, then I would end up in the same situation latter on down the road.

And I am not that skilled in the PC realm, this is my first PC that I built, so all the stuff you listed, I have heard of but not completely familiar with what you are suggesting.

And also I am not thrilled about paying that much for an SSD.

I am saying that you should not spend $700 on an SSD, but rather on a faster videocard, processor, motherboard, or RAM.

Well I have:
4 Gigs of ram
EVGA 8800 GT 512md DDR3 DX10
AMD 64 X2 Duel Core 6000+
ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe motherboard
64-Bit OS
750w power supply

I was looking at the GeForce GTX 295 series, I wanna stay with them, so what you recommend to go with it?

I went to newegg to see how old my stuff was

1. GTX 285 is best for FSX, however Nick stated the Radeon 5870 comes close. Furthermore, in all other benchmarks the Radeon 5870 is much faster than the GTX 285 while also having DX11 support.

2. The Radeon 5850 is slightly slower than the 5870, not sure about FSX performance however, but still beats the GTX 285 in the majority of other benchmarks. I think the 5850 is extremely good value although it might not be the best for FSX. For the price range the 5850 still might beat the GTX 275 in FSX (I'm not sure).

3. The GTX 295 uses two GTX 275 cores and slower memory so it's a waste of time in fsx, however it's faster than the 5870 in everything else.

4. I think the weakest point in your system is the processor, and memory however. Consider getting a cheap P55 (ASUS, MSI, GIGABYE) board, Core i7 860, and 4gb of DDR3-1600 - make sure to overclock it for best performance with a nice cooler. That's about $500, add in a $250 video card like the GTX 275, or Radeon 5850 and you're set.

Do that, and you will have a MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH bigger gain than any hard drive could possibly bring.

5. There are rumors that Nvidia will be dropping the price of all GTX 200 series cards shortly, because as it is they cannot compete with the Radeon 5xxx series at all. If you MUST go with Nvidia then there MIGHT be a possibility of a price drop soon.
