Hiya people. I wonder if you could answer what might seem to be a dumb question.  Is it possible to be able to have game sounds on the speakers and the headphones for radio type traffic without the game sounds as well. In other words two channels from the computer splitting the sounds. At present I do not have a sound card fitted, and only have the onboard Realtek Audio manager. And if a sound card is the answer, which is suitable for this to work.

Many thanks    Myk

I am running a, Acer T671 Intel Core2 Duo E6400, 2GB DDR2 RAM, ATI Radeon X1650SE 1024mb Graphics card, Vista Premium OS, 550w PSU.

I have not attempted this and I'll wait for others to give the specifics, but I've heard from many sources that within FSX only(not 2004) it is possible to split the sound output between comms and other sounds. I believe that it requires at least one soundcard to split the load, but I am in no way positive on this aspect. (I imagine you could split it between onboard and the card, but don't take that as a definite.)

i am only guessing, but I believe that you would need 2 sound cards.  each sound card installed would only have 1 sound output just, be it either HeadPhones or speakers.  Take your choice.

er-go, you would need 2 sound cards.  1 for headphones, 1 for speakers / surround sound system.

I personally just use headphone/mic combo that puts all the sounds through the headphones.  Just as simple and easy.   (then again I am on a laptop. Tongue )

not sure if this helps but when i first installed FSX, for the first month or two, i didnt have any voice sounds, weather in missions or from ATC. in fact i didnt realise there were any untill oneday i unplugged my cheap microphone and i heard voices! im guessing FSX thought my mic. was a headset of some kind and previously diverted all voice sounds to that!

so i think it is possible..

Many thanks for your posts in reply. I am lead to believe that in FSX + Acceleration it should be possible to split the sound config, into voice and sounds using the intergrated sound card or even by installing a 5.1 sound card a configuring two channels. Wether this would actually work correctly I will have to explore and would re-post the results on the forum. I am already aware that if you plug a standard Headphone/Mic combo you will hear both voice and game sounds at the same time, which is very off putting when trying to talk to someone else in teamspeak or an other radio format.
I must say that I find those people who work in Computer Shops to have no knowledge of the type of products that they are supposed to be knowledgeable about. I was asked in two different shops to go to PC WORLD for the definite answer. HUH As much knowledge was shown in trying to answer this little problem, as my 7 year old grandson knows about quantum-meta-physics. Five different members of staff and the supposed computer guru all showed the same blank expression in tryin to provide an answer. It came down to another customer, who is a gamer too, to try and answer the question.  So I will try and see if it is possible to configure FSX+A to receive voice in headphones and game sounds on speakers.  Cheers for now   Myk

This is an easy one.  Im running an ASUS P5K-E motherboard.  I use the onboard sound for the speaker sound.  I also have installed on my machine an external USB soundcard.  Its an older one, but it still works well.  You have to go into the system sound properties and direct what things you want each sound card to do.  Its fairly strait forward.

You assign microphone and headphones to the external and all other sounds to the onboard sound, for example.

You then open the FSX settings and direct the voice and ATC as well as the microphone to the external or second addon internal.  However you wish.

I have achieved this very thing with an external USB driven sound card. FSX is capable of splitting ATC from the rest of the sounds. I use a cheap set of computer speakers with a headphone jack for ATC and a really good set of speakers with a good subwoofer and seat shakers for all the other sounds.  Under the sound menu you can choose with sound card operates ATC and the rest of the sounds.
It took a few days of playing around to figure it out but it was worth it.

Thanks everyone for all of your suggestion and proposals , I have decided to go down the route of an extra sound card and the on-board card, doing the same thing under the settings in FSX. So I will be installing a 6.1 sound card for the voice side of things. And using the on-board sound card, which is supposed to be a 7.1 card for game soung via external set-up of sub-woofer and side speakers. And will think about installing a large speaker to the under-side of my chair.  Cheesy Shocked  CheesyShocked

UPDATE:

The Brother-In-Law, Blessed Be His Name (which is Joe), gave me a Microsoft Live Chat X600 Friday.  Its a mono earphone/mic combo that can be worn on either ear.  The origina intent was to use it with the Ventrilo voice communication program while playing World of Warcraft.  But it has other uses!

I happened to be in the FSX sound tab and pulled down the ATC/voice pull-down.  In it were choices for the Sound Blaster Audigy 4 internal, the SB NX2 external I've been using for ATC and voice AND the X600 earpiece!  I selected the earpiece, fired up a mission and the ATC was coming thru the earpiece clear and dandy.

The earpiece is comfortable setup is simple.  It is considered a soundcard by Windows.  You need a free USB port.

$59-$69 depending on where.  Got mine from Office Depot for $59.
