A month or so ago I installed a French Mirage AI pkg (very nice) and worked touch and go's with them for a week or so. It was cool and I could follow or land alongside them and take pics .. but today I thought I'd go back for a visit with my B-25.  Ok ... same airport, I pull out of the hanger and all the Mirages must be out of fuel. Nobody moves.  I do the traffic pattern .. still nothing. I change the time to 8:30 am and set to Monday, a workday.  Nothing. I switch to my F-18 .. same thing.  There must be something that triggers the AI to become active??  Help!   Cry Undecided Embarrassed

Grizz...

There is nothing that 'triggers' ai. All ai aircraft fly fixed schedule(s) as defined in the 'traffic*.bgl' file. If you're not there at the right time the ai will just sit there until their departure time.

Assuming the aircraft you're seeing are ai, not static scenery objects, and that the airport meets the requirements for ai operation, they will depart/arrive at their scheduled time. If the airport does not comply, the ai will simply disappear at departure time.

From your system specs I'll guess you're running FSX. If you have the SDK installed you can activate the Traffic Toolbox. This will give you the Traffic Toolbox Explorer under the <Alt> Tools menu. The Explorer  will list  all ai aircraft in your active ai area, and their status including departure time.

If you do not have the SDK, you can decompile the 'traffic*.bgl' file using AIFPC (download in msg. 57). You can the find the departure times in the resulting 'flightplans*.txt' file. All departure times are GMT/UTC.

Or, if you post the link to the Mirage AI pkg, I can take a look at it.

Cheers,
Dave

Thanks Dave3cu.  The package was MAIW Moroccan Mirage F1 from http://www.militaryaiworks.com/  I see a "Traffic_MAIW_Mroccan_Mirages_FSX.bgl file but I don't know if I can read it with some applicaton or not.  The airport they fly from and are stationed at (well some anyway) is GMSL (Sidi Slimane) and is where I flew with them before ....
Uh .... does "decompile" mean I would be able to understand the schedules?

You are more than welcome to post your questions in the MAIW support forums, we are better able to help you from there.

My guess is that you are simply there at a time when the AI are not scheduled to fly.

Also know that we cannot guarantee the behavior of our packages in FSX.

Our forums, including our support forum is located HERE

Grizz..

Checked out the Moroccan package, everything appears in order.  I'd guess you're just at the wrong time.

Goto GMSL, Thur., 07:35 GMT. One Mirage should takeoff for TNG within a couple of minutes.

To dertermine other schedules:

If you have the FSX-SDK installed use the Traffic Toolbox-Explorer.....or

The MAIW install includes the source .txt files (so you don't have to decompile) for the 'traffic*.bgl' file inside a folder named 'Military AI Works'. You can determine schedule from the 'flightplans*.txt' file. For help in understanding the structure of flightplan schedules read the Readme.htm file that comes with Traffic Tools v2.02......or

Install AI Flight Planner. It will present the flightplan schedules in a 'user friendly' display.

Note: All MAIW flightplans are in FS9 format. For flightplans on a 'Week' schedule...while FS9 day 0 (zero) is Sunday, in FSX day 0 is Monday.

Thanks dave3cu and MIKE JG for your responses. There is nothing wrong with the package and the behavior in FSX ... it's just me ... my learning curve and my understanding.  I'm getting it but slowly.  The instructions for converting the FS9 to FSX were very good and I appreciate the work done over at MAIW.  Thanks to you both ...  I WILL get it .... eventually.  Grin Grin
