I have gotten very mad because every time I go to the home page of SimV, the main menu with the list of newly added files, you click anywhere on the page and a popup window opens with an ad I don't care about. (I don't care about any of the ads.) The popup blocker doesn't stop the ad. I am just sick and tired of it!

Pete will tell you that there is one unobtrusive
pop-under
per visit to the home site.
If you're getting pop-ups with every link I suspect that you've picked up an adware trojan.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adware
I suggest running an anti-adware scan.

One pop under. Only one. And you did not get any malware or bad stuff from this site.

And please keep in mind that that one SINGLE pop-under ad and the ads on the top banner are a portion of what pays the bills in order to keep the SimV servers online.
If it really makes you "sick and tired" as you say... you can (do not HAVE TO) join SimV as a Premier Member and help to support and defray the cost of operating the site. It is less than most FS payware these days (and not much more than a Starbucks latte
).
I agree that if you are gertting tons of ads... you've been mal-ware-ed somewhere else.
best,
...............john

I do scans on my computer often to check for malware and viruses. The ad problem happens only on SimV, and a few other sites I've been to. You don't even click on a link, just anywhere on the page, and the popup comes up. It is a different ad every time. And it has happened to me on other computers as well. I am using Firefox by the way. I love SimV, but I don't want to pay to be a member. And that little pest ad bugs me!
Oh, and the ad problem only happens the first time in the day I visit SimV, and sometimes it does it again hours later.

The single ad is a pop under. You do not see the ad unless you close the page. Clicking on the page does not bring the ad up.

I don't really see the problem. Pete has confirmed that it's a single pop-under. One unobtrusive little ad that you won't even notice until you leave the site. Just my opinion but I think that's a very small price to pay for what you get out of it.

like hughes, i just tried the main page. I did not close the tab (IE8), go to another site, click on any links. I clicked on a blank area just to the right of the Ad at the top of the page. The main page stayed in the tab it is assigned to, but the Pop-under that was supposedly blocked by IE8, DOES show up in a new tab anyways.
granted it is annoying, it is something that I have come to live with until I can become a little more financially able to help the site with the $20 a year (which i REALLY wish that I could do)
Not to mention, I would be able to download more that just the 1 download at a time and have to wait 15min just to get a 30MB file that could d/l in a matter of 10seconds if I were able to get the 700Kb/s speed that I normally download at.

Hum........ let's see here...... $20.00 divided by 52 weeks a year. That comes to under 40 CENTS a week.
In many cases, particularly for folks living in places like the USA or the UK, it is often about priorities really. For those in some countries it is also about currency exchange rates and payscales....... which can make it more difficult.
Don't know where you live, but here in the USA one single purchased cup of coffee a week
not bought
likely would cover almost a
month's
"
helping out SimV
". A single bottle of Coke at a vending machine or a convenience store would do about the same.

i realize that it comes up to just less than .50 cent a day... but I just dont have the $20.00 USD to put up-front at the moment. I will by christmas due to my christmas bonus. ..... @PETE:: Do you take money orders as I do not have a bank account, or credit card??? How about making a SimV MoneyGram Account, then if anyone wants to contribute more they can.
