I recently posted this in the Digital Aviation forum but got no reponse. I hope you guys can help:

Hello Lads,

Hereīs something I donīt understand. Iīve got the Cheyenne fully loaded (pax, lugagge, fuel, etc.) but for some reason even with the throttle on idle the aircraft starts to move forward and even gains quite some speed. Around 20 kts. I hit the brakes and the plane stops but it still keeps crawling forward at a snails pace.

What do I need to check to fix this?

The Cheyenne is a turboprop...

Ok.....so you have your throttle levers on idle, but what is the position of your prop rpm levers and condition levers?
You may be able to get away with prop levers full forward, but beyond having the throttles reduced, make sure you reduce the condition levers to idle as well.

Your props have too much pitch .... pull back to 1%. Ok now ... Brakes on, throttle on idle, roll trim for nose up, props 1 %, condition levers at default.  Always start the FSX with the default Cessna 172 loaded first (before loading the Cheyenne) with both tanks selected or funny things will happen.  Run the props up before takeoff, condition levers full forward, move the power to full and the aircraft will fly off itself.

You can add the Garmin 500 to supplement the Trimble if you like. Helps in the learning curve. pm me if interested.

You'll probably get more responses here than at Digital.

Well, the condition lever on the cheyenne is basicaly an on-off switch, thereīs no in-between. So, this means that the condition lever is always full forward.

The prop lever is by default full forward. I tried pulling it back to the brink of feathering and the problem disappears but now I have to give it almost full throttle just to make it move forward a bit. Iīve tested the default King Air and the Caravan and they behave almost the same. Makes me believe itīs a FS thing maybe. Is there a way to tweak it?

I hear some people say that this is how turboprops are in real life. Is that really so?

And by the way. Thanks for you time and help. Iīm getting a lot more support here that at digital.

Cheerz.

Depends. Some Cheyenne model default at half position.
For taxi run the props up to 4 or 5 %
Brink of feathering is "Beta" position (prevents runaway)
Digital site is confusing so it's used very little.  Too bad ... this is a GREAT aircraft with beautiful detail.  I think part of the problem over there is work overload, but I've been jumped on by management for trying to help ... so I mostly stay away.  Shocked Shocked

You mean, managment from Digital?

If thatīs the case then you can help me here hehe. Have you seen both knobs for the VOR1 indicator as well in the VC?

Nah, seriously. Is that how itīs done in real life? Almost feathering the props for taxiing?

Yes on your 1st question.  Probably my fault though.  I posted a link in an answer to an inquiry and I guess that's a no-no.

I use both VORs .... don't see any extra knobs.

Yes ....  forward of Beta range to taxi.  Here's a pilots explanation:

Quote:
Why do we have a beta range? Due to the slow response to throttle setting changes in turbo engines it is very impractical to use the throttle to control movement on the ground. You would have to wait for the gas generator to spin up (Ng increase), providing more torque through the power turbine (PT) increasing the prop RPM (Np). The prop CS governor would then tell the pitch control unit (PCU) to increase the prop pitch and then you would get additional power. In beta mode, you change the pitch first instead using the inertia in the propeller system to provide thrust, letting the Ng accelerate or decelerate in response to Np to keep Np constant.

I get the same issue, what I do is hit shift +F1 to feather the prop, then do a brief shift +F2 and it will feather the prop even more, to the point where you don't even really hear the props, just the turbines.  You won't move Wink
