I have an old emachines T6212 that has developed some kind of problem with its motherboard. My computer guru says he needs to re-install the drivers. I have no idea why but if he says it needs x, y, or z, I pay for it. The problem is that I can't get into Properties. I also want to drop in an AMD 4000+ chip and an eVGA 8800GTS just like my present system has. I have no idea how much this will cost, but I am thinking I want to do it to have a machine set aside for FS9 only. I will run all my add-on sceneries, et cetara. The old machine currently has a 3800+ and an eVGA 7900GS-KO card in it, 3 GB of 400MHz RAM and a 500-watt p/s. It ran FS2004 pretty well, but not as good as my present set-up. I'm asking "Is it worth it?" Some of you will say No; others may say Yes. I'm looking for advice, here. And Thanks to all for any replies...

My system: AMD Phenom 9500 cpu, 2 x eVGA e-GeForce 8800GTS Superclocked vidcards (640Mb DDR3 each), Zalman "sunflower" 9700 fan, Gigabyte GA-M57SLI-S4 mobo, 4Gb G.Skill PC2-6400 DDR2 800Mhz RAM, 2 x Sony 20X DVD writers, Thermaltake Toughpower 850W modular p/s, 7 x 120mm fans, Windows XP Home and SP3, 2 x 250Gb Western Digital SATA-300 HDs (1 for apps, 1 for storage and precious files backup), CoolerMaster CM 690 case, NOD-32. Won't run FSX. Locks up a lot with FS9, too.

Why would he want to reinstall the board drivers? I asked him this, but it was well over a year ago and I don't remember what he said. I'll have to install the latest drivers for the videocard; I understand that. I have two extras that have been sitting in a box since Christmas. i have no idea how to do any of this stuff...

Ok the board drivers are what we call chipset drivers.
It will install the chipset, intel or amd, it will instal ide drivers (for hd) even sata (usually the windows also have them).

For video cards well.....here we go you need to open your pc and locate the card, wich will be very easy since your monitor is connected to it.If they are from nvidia for eg. you dont need to unistall the drivers you have because it will work ( sometimes), if you have a nvidia and the new one its an Ati then you need to go to control panel , add and remove software and uninstall the drivers. After you put the card on if it is an ati, usually your windows will give you the message of "new hardware found" click cancel when he tells you to install drivers. Insert the cd rom that cames with card and let it auto run (if not auto run go to start , my computer click on your cd rom)follow the instructions. If the new card is a nvidia and the old one too windows will accpet the old ones, but that doesnt mean you dont need to update them.

When somebody tells you to get the latest drivers its because newdrivers are always caming out, ad he new one usually fix many things. Just got to Nvidia or Ati and look for the drivers for you card.then you just need to run them ususally if they detecte old drivers first they will remove them. But to be honest i dont think this is the reason for your Flight Sim to lock.I guess its a configuration problem.

I hope it helped, keep me posted if i can give you any more assistance.
Cheers Wink

PS with a pc like that why you want to change anything, i would kill for a video card like yours.  Grin never mind the rest of the pc Cool
im tallking about "my system" one.
