Is it worth switching from XPpro to Windows 7 on an older system, or  should I just wait until it's being packaged with one, and get it then?

It looks mighty cool, but I'm not sure how compatitble it would be with my hardware. Wink

OK how old is 'old'

It does run better on minimum specs than anything ive seen before though

Russian planes: IL-76 (all standard length ones),  Tu-154 and Il-62, Tu-134 and An-24RV&&&&AI flightplans and repaints can be found here

I've ran the compatibility advisor from the Windows 7 home page, and it said that I'm in the clear and pass all 4 requirements.

It's not terribly old, but getting there fast:

AMD 64x2 5400+ 2.8Ghz dual
ATI 1650pro 512Mb
x2Gb OCZ 800Mhz RAM
500w PSU

It does everything I need it to do now, but if there is a system wide performance gain to be had, or if the rumors I hear of XP's planned extinction are true, then I would want to do it.

If however my XP will continue to serve me faithfully into the future, and there is no extra performance to be gained from the switch, then I will probably stay put until I upgrade the whole system with a new one. Smiley

Shane, that system is perfectly fine for Win7 Wink

I'm so happy with it. I just reinstalled FEX (Yes, Flight Environment X) and the SHD update wouldn't run (said the OS was incompatible). So I ran it in compatibility mode and it ran and installed just fine... I was so excited! Grin

I'm always a bit wary of these Windows "upgrades"... Undecided...!

I run Win XP Pro. (since converting from Win '98).

Whenever I look at all my existing various software, (which sometimes has to be re-installed), it only quotes them as being compatible with Win XP, (and similar versions), only.

So a change to Vista/Win 7, etc, may render them uninstallable/unworkable... Shocked...!

Paul..."upgrading" always worries me!... Roll Eyes.... Grin...!

I switched a long time ago from Windows 95 to XP and I am happy because Xp was built off of the older OSs. 7 seems a bit too new for me. We will see how it goes than maybe sometime next year I'll buy it. Not into the whole OS upgrade thing. Wink

Dual boot? Could even triple boot, XP Pro, Windows 7, Linux.

I've got similar system AMD X2, 2GB RAM runs fine. But I think could do with another 2GB (64 bit version)
