Look at the tutorials, they kind of help!  Wink  Cheesy

Do you know how to make materials in GMAX?

Use the "UVW map" for basic texturing and "Unwrap UVW" for advanced texturing.

Every time I click on the Tutorials button under 'Help', nothing happens. I've tried reinstalling Gmax a few times but it was no help. I was wondering if any one could walk me through the steps to get the UVW map?

It's kind of a lengthy process.  Simple, but lengthy.  Just so you know, Gmax doesn't include any Help tutorials.  They are supposedly downloadable, but I can't remember from where (Turbosquid?).

For really learning how to do all of the neat Gmax stuff, go check out the FFDS Tutorials Forum.  It's where I learned most of what I know about the nit-picky parts of Gmax.

Mapping for textures can be simple and fun but not without some planning and organization.

I have a series of tutorials (exercises) here that includes texture mapping.  There are also several video tutorials that cover the graphically explained steps.  See Step 22.

I going to follow those tutorials, but I can't download the FS2004 SDK Gmax setup.exe because all the link is broken. Microsoft took down the file methinks... Embarrassedhttp://download.microsoft.com/download/4/d/e/4de1e425-c932-4232-829b-eeb7f265888...

I'm sending it now. It's 15mb so it may not attach or be allowed.

I've also got the Gmax tutorial files that Travis mentioned. If the email thing doesn't work, I'll do an upload and send you the link.

PS: Your link above goes right to download for me.

That's not fair! I just get "Firefox can't find the file at http://download.microsoft.com/download/4/d/e/4de1e425-c932-4232-829b-eeb7f265888...."

My email wouldn't let me attach it, so here's the link to the upload:

This contains everything you see in the pic above, plus the Tutorials & help files that you install into Gmax, plus a few other very handy Gmax items.

The downloadable tutorials are in the Tutorials Section, not the sub-forum.

For Gmax, the Help and the Tutorials are 2 separately downloaded and installed files.  You should be able to download them from the same place you got gmax.

If Gmax came with your FS9/8, then you have those two Help and Tutorial files on your computer already.  They need to be installed after gmax is installed.

GMax and all the required Help/Tutorial files are cleverly hidden in plain sight at:
