Uncheck 'Show ATC text'
Check 'Auto-open ATC window"
The ATC window will pop up when ATC calls you.
If you have to review an ATC call, you can goto the kneeboard.

Geez Dave, spot on ! It works. A few simple box checks and now it feels personalized for me.
If you don't mind a probing question, how long have you been flying FS2004 ? j/k
