Hey all,

I just got Eaglesofts Citation X and I noticed that the viewpoint is very low and even shifted to the right. I know there is a way to change the viewpoint but I cant remember how to do it and if anyone can help me out I'd really appreciate it!!!

Cheers,
Bill

I had this problem with FS9 until some kindly soul pointed out that the viewpoint adjustment only works in a virtual cockpit display.     You probably knew that anyway.    In my 2D panels, I use shift/enter and shift/backspace to move my eyepoint up and down.

You could try the F1View Utility.

Default VC eyepoint is in the aircraft.cfg file:

[Views]
eyepoint= -3.95, -0.85, 2.1         //(feet) longitudinal, lateral, vertical distance from reference datum position

For the 2D, in the panel.cfg you can raise/lower the default forward view..(increasing the pitch value moves the view the same direction as shift+enter)

[Views]
VIEW_FORWARD_DIR= 3.0, 0.0, 0.0  // Pitch, Bank, and Heading

Dave,

I recently bought TrackIR and am getting used to VCs.

I know I can use the view commands to move foreword and backwards but I'd like to fix my favorite airplanes that have VCs so I don't have to use them.

Could you explain more about what you mean please about longitudinal, lateral, and vertical distance ?

The "from the referenced datum" throws me.

Maybe something along the lines of the first number is for maybe raising your seat or moving it back, etc ? ?

edit: I mainly just want to move about 5 clicks back so I can see some of the guages better.

Thanks,

KC

It's very simple to go into the Controls/Assignments/View Commands menu... either use the default commands, or create your own.

Changing the default viewpoint for an aircraft isn't that hard, either... but knowing the basic commands helps you figure out where you want it, and works well for trying out a new model.

KC,

'Reference datum' should have read 'reference datum position'. It is a point, defined by the author in the aircraft.cfg file, from which all other defined points in the aircraft.cfg file are measured.

As you are making adjustments relative to an existing point  (eyepoint=) you don't have to be concerned with the 'reference datum point'.  Just make adjustments to the existing values to move in the desired direction.

longitudinal=fore and aft
lateral=port and starboard
verticle=up and down

In the example I gave above, you would make the first value more negative. -4.95 would move the eyepoint aft 1 foot. Experiment with the value to get what you want.

KC, I'm a bit confused about why these position settings are effecting you if your using trackir.....If I could make a few suggestions about getting the most out of your trackir.....on your stick/yoke pick two buttons that are easy access (preferably for your thumb) go into the trackir program and instead of f9 and f12 for center and on/off assign these two easy access buttons, when in the simulator you turn on trackir(if not on by default) sit in a comfortable position and press the centering button that you have assigned........if you are too zoomed in, then lean forward a little bit and press the centering button again,now when you relax back into your comfortable position you will be slightly zoomed out  Cool the same method applies for up and down, if your to low by default then lean down slightly before you press the center button, when you sit back up straight you will be able to see over the panel comfortably............trackir is fairly new to me also, but I tell you what!.........there is no going back, it's just the most amasing device, and I've wanted it for so long and I cant believe I didnt do it sooner Roll Eyes
hopefully these ideas are of some help to you

Rom,

Yes I have center and pause on my stick.  I use the "center" most frequently.  To get the view that I want I have to lean WAY back !

A picture is worth a thousand miles.  Here's a few from my comfortable sitting and flying position:

Thanks for your concern though.  And yes, the device is amazing. Wonder how my kids knew I wanted it for Father's Day  Wink

KC Jones,
Please upload all pictures to the Simviation server, keeping images under 150kb in size. It slows down the forum when you post link shots. And could you please upload your signature too, making sure its under 30kb.

Thankyou. Smiley

instead of using contrl-enter or contrl-backsp which moves your veiw point back and forth, you should try going into keyboard assignments and re-assign  - and =  from increase and decrease to increase slightly and decrease slightly, then you can use - and = to zoom your veiw with much more control, then hit center your TIR and you should be able to find the sweet spot  Smiley

Rom,

You found the silver bullet !  Works a charm ! Added them to my stick.  Now I can adjust my horizontal view to match the seat-back of the co-pilot's chair perfectly and see the gauges just as I would if I were sitting in my own cockpit seat.  I can even lean in forward to take a closer look at my gauges then rest back with no further adjustments.

Thank you and take care,

KC

Mitch, Sorry about the pictures.  I keep forgetting about uploading them.

PS - Now if I only knew how to turn off the ATC window when I'm flying (its programmed on my stick - off/on) so as not to see other ATC transmissions that don't involve me.  I know I need it showing to type in an answer when the ATC window applies to me. But after typing in my response I'd like it to stay closed until I'm called by the ATC.  Don't get me wrong, I like "hearing" the traffic but not the continually popping up of the screen (that doesn't relate to me). I've just got to keep hitting the "close" button. Do I make sense ?

KC,

Re: PS-Now if I only.........

Goto Settings>Air Traffic Control

Uncheck 'Show ATC text'
Check 'Auto-open ATC window"

The ATC window will pop up when ATC calls you.

If you have to review an ATC call, you can goto the kneeboard.
