hi all,

I'm about to install FSX. I think my rig is pretty decent but wanted a confirmation from a pro - NickN for example Wink I am fully aware of the FSX finetuning guide written by Nick, once FSX is installed those tweaks will be definitely applied.

So here we go:

case: antec900
cpu: Q9550 lapped @ 4 GHz 1.2 load VCore perfectly prime stable
cooling & temps: tru120e w. scythe s-flex 1600 rpm fan, idle 30ish load 50ish
hdd: wd640gb
board: GB EP45-DS3
graphics: GTX260
memory: g-skill 4 gb ddr2 1000 MHz

looking forward to reading some extensive answers Smiley

cheers!

p.s. which video drivers do you guys recommend for FS9? my fps is fluctuating quite heavily, sometimes down to 20 (locked @ 30), Nick's fs9 tweaks have been applied (also o&o defrag et al)

You have a quad-core CPU, and this is good.
Your CPU has a very high frequency, 4 GHz, and this is excellent.
The graphc card is good enough for FSX.
You have enough memory. I don't know about the speed, though, but I suppose it's not bad.

I would say that your rig will allow you to get an excellent graphic quality and stable performance. My only concern is about the CPU cooling system. FSX will push your CPU to the max, so it WILL NEED a good cooling system, a very efficient one. Your video card will need too. My 8800 GTX is currently at 76 °C, too close to the stability limit. Sometime I get corrupted graphics because of that... summer is here. everything was fine during winter but now that the temperature is high, I'll have to be carefull...

hello Daube,

as I mentioned in my first post, my CPU temps don't go above around 53°C, even after 9 hours prime95 stress testing. This is due to the facts that:

1. mine is a 'golden' chip as people called it in an overclocking forum, only 1.2 vcore needed for stable 4GHz
2. it's lapped and there's a TRU120 extreme on it with a very good 1600 rpm fan Smiley

You guys are amazing! You have way more computer than I do, and you're worried? I have an HP 9350f refurb and it runs FSX great.

You will enjoy your machine immensely. Relax! Smiley
