Once again the FIA further show their stupidity and how far up their own backsides they are.
I love quotes like this.
Quote:
The FIA and FOM have together spent decades building the FIA Formula One World Championship into the most watched motor sport competition in history.

In light of the success of the FIA's Championship, FOTA - made up of participants who come and go as it suits them – has set itself two clear objectives: to take over the regulation of Formula One from the FIA and to expropriate the commercial rights for itself. These are not objectives which the FIA can accept.

Firstly, I'm sure the teams had at least a little to do with it. You know, attracting the sponsors who lined the pockets of those in charge. Bringing two cars to each event 18 odd weekends a year while hauling that equiptment several thousand miles a month.
Oh and of course paying hundreds of millions a year to create the cars, the teams and the spectacle that we've enjoyed. I'm not sure how Max can take so much credit for what F1 is, yes he played his part, but numerous times, it was his and his lawyers stupidity that caused several events that almost caused F1 to collapse. Grey area's to the rules. Scandals. You name it he's been through it. surviving a vote of confidence, in which I believe not one major motor sport body voted for him, and it was onyl thanks to the tiny countries with no real motorsports voting for him that he kept his job.

Secondly. coming and going as they please? The number one name in the sport has had an unbroken run of over 60 years, that being Ferrari. The second team Mclaren has been around god only knows how long enjoying so much success its difficult to find better.
I hope Max enjoys trying to sell his racing series next year on the legacy of Williams, because thats the only team who will be there who falls into his dedicated, not coming and going as they please mentality.

I'm looking forward to next years FOTA series. Real cars, superstar drivers, and no max to get in the way.
Maybe some proper circuits as well.

I guess I forgot to include
"they both buckle"
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/76269

seems both sides are getting twitchy and nervous as we get to zero hour.
Stay strong FOTA, your own series and rules are but a few days away.

And that is that.

As a side note, while I'm not getting too excited for the cars of next year (the manufacturers have stated they will design them based on the original F1 rules for 2010) I am hoping come 2011 we'll see the return of proper looking racing cars.

Looks like I voted correctly after all. Cheesy Wink

Now, how many follow suit, and how many chicken out at the last minute? Huh

Can they really pull this off with just 8 teams?

How funny would it be, if this gets done right, and then Max & the FIA come asking to participate in it? Grin

Some time back, Whiplash Max said, "I am not a fascist", whilst being flogged by Nazi hookers. Well Max, you have certainly been strutting around like one for a while, my way or no way Roll Eyes. Bets on Max being asked (in private of course) to take early retirement after successfully dismantling F1.

I have been watching F1 since 1976, not sure I can be bothered with next year. The media will whip it up, but a field full of newbie teams being driven by a bunch of no name drivers......RIP F1.

Matt

Edit. FIA takes legal action..... Did not take long did it Roll Eyes

Mmmm...

It'll all be sorted, but if Alonso happens to end up without a seat next year I won't mind. In one of his interviews he says he'd like to do Le Mans - yeah right, obviously no one's told him he'd have to share the drive and glory. Grin

One quote I do like is this one from Wikipedia:

"The Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile, commonly referred to as the FIA, is a non-profit association established as the Association Internationale des Automobile Clubs Reconnus (AIACR) on June 20, 1904 to represent the interests of motoring organisations and motor car users. To the general public, the FIA is mostly known as the governing body for many motor racing events."

'Nuff said.

They'll shout, bicker and finger point at each other for 6 months, then realise it'll be easier to just carry on. Too many commercial interests at stake.

You are probably right. The interesting point though is the poisoned Dwarf. Bets on him doing the commercial rights side if the FOTO championship gets off the ground. "There is no conflict of interest, I am just representing two entirely different motor sport championships" Grin
