I got this video from someone asking a question in the Aircraft Wanted section.  A list of the aircraft is in the info section of the video.  Who thought up these dern things?  A couple of them look like something out of Star Wars . . .

I only watched a few seconds as the music was driving me berserk. Roll Eyes

From what I can see they are all genuine aircraft, mostly unsuccessful prototypes. I could probably name most of them given time.

Edit. I see he provided a list.

Yeah, I just muted the crap.

One of the most interesting, I thought, was the Bumble Bee, third from the end of the video.  It's wings are stubby enough for me to actually believe it couldn't fly!

Oh, it flew alright. http://members.cox.net/robinstarr/

I see at least one of those pics is a fake.

Which one?  I'm betting the twin Piper Tripacer is fake.  The props look too close together to work.

I looked this one up:
http://www.twinnavion.com/oddballs.htm

It appears that somebody actually did this to a Tri-pacer. I think this guy, Harold Wagner, had some sort of obsession with making things into twins that shouldn't be. If you look at the bottom of the page, you can see a picture with the engines running. The prop clearance is next to nothing, but it is there.

Actually, I'm glad this came up. I remember seeing a picture of a twin V-Tail Bonanza a long time ago and not being able to find any information about it. Now I know more about that plane too!

The Tri-Pacer Twin is genuine. http://www.1000aircraftphotos.com/Contributions/HornDavid/8788.htm

The single-engined B-17 is the fake.

A faux or two, interspersed with some rather novelty lookin' prototypes.

I liked the B-29 airliner at the end.  Passengers could disembrk via a 'chute and the bomb bay. Cheesy

It's actually a Convair R2Y "Liberator Liner", the airliner version of the B-24. A prototype was built but it didn't enter service. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Consolidated_R2Y

The airliner based on the B-29 was the B377 Stratocruiser. This did enter service with Pan Am & BOAC. Some were later modified as Guppy transports.

It's a 2-seater... only two of them were built.
