Whether you like NASCAR or not, there's  no denying the fact that this was one of the best finishes in motorsports. Shocked Cool

7 People sustained minor injuries, and this was the rookie driver's, and team's first win.

At the restart with 4 laps to go, the winner was in 10th place. Cool

The slo-mo replays are incredible. Shocked

It was a good race, must admit my money was on Montoya, he was by far one of the quickest the whole race and was easily able to move back up front any time he was pushed back.

Same here. Wink   I hope so much, that someday he'll wind up with equipment better suited to his talents.  If he can do that well with sub-par cars, I can only imagine the success he could have in top notch stuff.

Now if only we could get M.S. to come over and shake some stuff up.

Those two would be golden to watch, racing each other again. Smiley

I only saw the last 3 laps. I think I'd call that timing.

Heres 3 good reasons why I am denying that was one of the best finishes in motorsport:

2007 12 Hours of Sebring:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OL2HF-sFLnc
Audi wins overall but in GT2 Ferrari and Porche battle it out after 12 HOURS, not 500 miles.

2008 Grand Prix of Brazil:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lyd5ftzINbs
Felipe Massa wins the race and he and his team, fans and family think he has won the championship, but Lewis Hamilton gained one position on the last corner of the last lap of the last race of the season and won the championship by one point.

2003 Chicagoland:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J2ruMyqG_3I
Not even going to try to annotate this one

2006 Indy 500
2008 Belgian Grand Prix

Notice all of these races ended without injured spectators or huge wrecks.  In NASCAR it seems the drivers are safer than the fans.  There have been some great finishes in stock cars, Darlington in I think 2003 comes to mind, but the restrictor plate races are rather unspectacular to me because the passes don't mean anything.

Someone else who was watching today commented that they wondered how many of the injured had actually cut themselves shaving that morning, but are injured in order to sue the race promotors for an extortionate amount of money...

Those are all great finishes, but, be it an inch or 24 hours, a race is a race, and any longer than 500 miles and I would probably fall asleep. Wink Grin

I still think it was a great finish, didn't see it coming, it was a total underdog who won for an under financed team. That's what I think makes it great.  The wreck was just a spectacular bonus.

And it's Extremely rare when a spectator is injured at a Nascar racing event.

I've watched since the 80's and don't recall any time since 1987 that it has happened.

But I bet they wait for Bill France to cozy up to them a bit before they sue.

Didn't know shaving could break your jaw.  I'd better be careful next time! Grin

There's been a few fan injuries over the years unfortunately......Ernie Irvan's hood at Talladega sailed over the fence during a wreck, and I can't recall who or what year that a loose tire went over the fence at Charlotte....but I digress.

Best Finishes?!?

Dover 2000....Kurt Busch and Jeremy Mayfield banging the snot out of each other for the last pair of laps.

Daytona 2007....Mark Martin and Kevin Harvick wheel to wheel after Harvick came out of nowhere and a cluster wreck broke out exiting turn 4.

Talladega 2000...Earnhardt Sr. comes from 16th to 1st during the last 4 laps.

Bristol 1996....Terry Labonte takes the worst looking car EVER into Victory Lane.

...........just to name a few.......

does anyone remember the photo finish at Darlington a few years back, maybe 2002 or 2003?  Don't remember who it was but it involved the Tide Bleach car

Ricky Craven(Tide Pontiac-last win for Pontiac) and Kurt Busch (Sharpie Ford), the greatest, closest finish in Nascar IMO. Cool

I'm actually partial to the '93 Diehard 500 at Talladega!

Earnhardt and Swervin Irvan doorhandle to doorhandle outta 4 and into the frontstretch.....we were frontrow in the tower seats....got some cool video of all of us yellin' our butts off as they came down the the checkers....a bumper width was the margin at the 'crossing'.....Earnhardt!!! Smiley.....was the 2nd closest finish til the Ricky & Kurt thing!

But I do share your best-ever opine!  The best last two laps EVER!!!  I was off the couch all yellin' and stuff like I was trackside! Cheesy
