Could you be a little more specific??  Also you will get far more help on our support forums than you will get here.

No it doesn't cancel out any other traffic.

EDITED to read:  No it doesn't cancel out any other FS9 traffic.  It will cancel out FSX traffic if the traffic file is not converted first to the FSX format.

Are you using MAIW in FSX?  You must convert the MAIW packages to FSX standards, or it WILL cause your FSX default traffic to disappear.

ALL FS2004 Traffic files will do this to FSX unless the bgl files are converted using AIFPC or something similar.

I've got all the MAIW & PAI packs installed in FS9 & FSX, and they all work perfectly. Wink

I'm still working on converting all of the Russian Military from avsimRU to FSX standards, but I'm getting there. Wink

Although I'm still learning about MAIW installing my first package (Hornet) it did cause all my traffic to disappear.  Now mind you .... I have MyTraffic installed .... and ALL of my traffic disappeared.  I can find NO CLEAR walkthrough on any of this. Much references FS2000, FS2004 and the installing of a "Virtual FS9" directory, and many "fixes" and "repairs" and "updates".  I'm not criticizing .. I'm just saying it's quite difficult to get it all right without messing something else up.

The virtual FS9 directory is needed because of the auto installer.

Just make a folder call it FS9 and place a copy of the FS9.exe Inside it, and that's where the auto installer will put everything.

When that's done, move the planes & scenery over to FSX, and then convert the flight plans to FSX version using AIFPC (free).

It's not hard to do, the reason they don't do it themselves, is because it's not meant for FSX. If they did, they would have to field all kinds of support questions for problems that are caused by trying to put the square peg into the round hole.

Posky is the same way.  Wink

WOAI and PAI  have come up with an installer that will do all of this automatically, so I'm sure the guys at MAIW are cooking something up.

FS9 isn't going to last forever (as much as I would like it too. Roll Eyes Wink )

I did indeed create the FS9 folder with the necessary FS9.exe inside and all the requested folders and sub-folders, installed the Hornet package and then moved all the planes and scenery to FSX.  But when they start talking about flight plans ....  I see no documentation to to help me understand "which fs9 flight plans?" ...   like where are they, how did they get created, etc.  AIFPC .... well,  not very clear.  Now if I had been raised with FS9 I'd probably have a better understanding ....  but I'm still working on it!  Any progress is good progress.  Grin Grin Grin

Understood. Wink

FS9 traffic files are different than the FSX ones.

For some reason, if you put a traffic file made for FS9 into FSX, it will override the  FSX traffic file, thus making all of your FSX traffic disappear.
All MAIW flight plans come in the FS9 format and need converted. Wink

To fix this, a freeware program called AIFPC (or AI Flight Plan Converter) was created to convert FS9 traffic files to FSX.

A traffic file has the .bgl extension (like scenery) and can be found in :

Scenery\World\scenery   folder in FSX and FS9.

That's the frustrating thing for us.  There are just enough differences between the two version (FS9 vs. FSX) to make it not worth our time.

Had they carried more parts over from 9 to X, it would be much easier to produce packages for both versions.

I thank you for not ditching the FS9 crowd for the new & flashy model. Wink

It's nice to know we still rate high on someone's list. Smiley

Wouldnt it just be easier to provide MAIW for FSX instead of the long route? Why is FS9 better than FSX?

To make a very long debate very short, because no one on the MAIW staff has been impressed by FSX enough to make the switch.  Therefore there is no one to put the packages together in the FSX required format and more importantly, there is no one to beta test the packages in FSX.

That's about as simple as I can put it.

I wish we could do both, but just like every other freeware organization, we are always strapped for volunteers willing to put these things together for free.

Don't forget what we do is far more time consuming than what WoAI or AIG or any other AI group does for that matter.  So it's not just a matter of converting a few files.

Update .... After some hours I finally had success and it looks really cool!!  I pulled up in my C-130 behind a couple of French Mirages today waiting for them to get clearance.  I've only installed 3 pkgs (Mountain Home, Idaho, the Finnish F18 Hornets and the French Mirages).   Martin Gossman's Guide is detailed, step by step and first class.  I appreciate the great planes and it really enhances the experience, especially when you are not flying multiplayer.
