America's second loss (after Sputnik) in the space race.

On 12 April 1961, cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin became the first human in outer space and the first to orbit the Earth.

American Alan Shepard made a suborbital flight on 5 May 1961.

John Glenn became the first American to orbit the Earth almost a year after Gagarin, on 20 February 1962.

Nope... that would be ancient Chinese emperor. The Moon was much closer to China then, as attested by his loyal royal mathmeticians, thus his moons and the rest of his array were rocketed on a 50-mile trip skyward to set his throne in the lunar realm to become its first earth-born moonarch.

Huh

...oh, were you only addressiing up and back in one piece?

Embarrassed

Up and back in one piece and orbit the Earth.

That would be a long time to hold your breath on a rocket chair.
