Interesting.. but that's an entire model.. a fix along the lines of "shutting off" an entire VC. We're talking about editing a model... changing something specific, within it.

OK Brett, have it your way. I'm not prepared to argue. Suffice to say that these things are all possible if you know how to do it.

Sorry Chief I respect your opinion ,your my best friend a we are codesigners ,but Im not agree with you only this time , I hope this not break Our friendship ,but I can't quiet about this

Naw  Smiley  We're friends forever !  Cool

I respect your opinion too. I'd never suggest that you share a source file with just any person.

To me.. all the work and research is for making a good model and the whole reason for doing it, is for sharing it (even the source code).

We can't stop people from stealing.. locked door only keep honest people out of a house.

I figure.. if someone is interested enough to have learned Gmax, then them using my source code, is no different than someone using the actual model IN FSX.

And heck.. if they learn something from messing with my source code, that's even BETTER.. now I'm helping someone else , and we've got another designer Smiley

I wasn't arguing.. just discussing.. and yes, it's possible.. but would likely be an effort in proprtion to just making a new model.

If I may, for a much simpler solution, would it be possible to set up a new lighting system in the aircraft.cfg and assign a key press for them and just not use the built in lighting system, thereby just bypassing them?

In this way the original author's work is left untouched and no copyrights are violated.

Just a thought. Smiley

Point of information only -

Shane - the answer is basically no.  IF it's coded into the mdl, it will operate under the appropriate keystroke.  This is not, for example, like a landing gear animation - you can "freeze"  a retractable landing gear by declaring extension.retraction times of "0"  in the aircraft.cfg file, but then you'll still have the visuals of the open gear doors, etc.

Or, you can make a landplane an amphibian/seaplane, again by editing the aircraft.cfg file, but then, all you get is a visual landplane landing nicely on the water.

I was referring to setting up a [Lights] section in the cfg.
using lighting FX files and assigning a key other than the "L" key to turn them on, this way you wouldn't have to use the modeled lights.

I had to do this to a FS2000 model of a F-16XL, it had modeled lights for all of the lighting, so I updated it with Shockwave 3-d lights and just played with the XYZ until they were positioned right and set them up to turn on with the "T" key.

If I press L, the modeled lights still function as normal, I just don't use them. Wink

I'm going to have to try that amphib trick. Sounds like it would make for some interesting emergency water landing practice. Cool Smiley

Going back to the original question, the FS9 version of the RFP 747-200 already has a [LIGHTS] section in Aircraft.cfg together with corresponding FX files. I assume this makes further modification to the MDL unnecessary. Although I posted a link nobody seems to have checked it out. http://www.simviation.com/fs2004jets211.htm

I note that Chan hasn't returned since his second post. The amount of over-reaction in this topic probably scared him off. Roll Eyes

I've got this beast (sits in my 'no longer flying it'  folder), Cool. You're right, the lights problem doesn't exist on this version. It would have helped to know which version of FS he was running as was mentioned before. Could be an easy solution for him with this version. Smiley
